This is always a tender time for me. I think of all the hopes and dreams that died on a battlefield so I could live in freedom and realize mine. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to those who sacrificed their very lives for us, and to the families.

The National Day of Prayer is an occasion for all Americans to gather and call out to God on behalf of our country. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer, and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
