Like so many, I am relieved to see the arrival of 2021. However, while we have been awaiting the end of 2020, we still have some tough months ahead. Let's try to not get discouraged when the new year does not bring the change we desperately need soon enough. Better days ahead!

Congrats to Ankur Nagaraja as he moves from my lab to an exciting and impactful position at Novartis. I am touched and inspired by his parting gift, a shirt with apparently one of my favorite sayings in the lab. This is very true, especially today as we see what science can do!

Want to highlight the importance of sharing data early. @DepMap release helps all find and use cancer targets more quickly. New reports on WRN from pharma/biotech (from IDEAYA in iScience and BI in Elife) are evidence of how data sharing help bring science to patients faster.

Congratulations to @Garnettlab @DepMapSanger for their exciting work in Nature on the use of functional genomics to identify cancer vulnerabilities. An exciting era where we can find what makes cancer 'tick' and then increasingly use this information to develop new therapies.
