FAI move Ireland’s home game against Israel to neutral venue - Aidan Fitzmaurice
But their stated intent to play both games against the Israelis, in the face of widespread opposition from within the game and from the public, will come under fresh scrutiny with the FAI board saying they need to fulfil the fixtures “to protect the future interests of football in Ireland”.
In the last 24 hours, Shamrock Rovers man Pico Lopes, speaking from World Cup duty with Cape Verde, backed a call from the PFA Ireland to not play the game at all and further voices, like Shelbourne manager Joey O’Brien, who has been outspoken on the issue, are likely to add to pressure on the FAI over the weekend to boycott the games.
