This World Environment Day, we reflect on the actions helping shape a more sustainable future, at Biocon. We have reused and recycled over 90% of waste and achieved 73% renewable energy adoption through green energy partnerships. Through our responsible operations and a sustainable corporate commute program, we have avoided nearly 193,337 tons of CO₂ emissions, while also supporting community-led initiatives such as tree plantation drives and lake rejuvenation projects.​ ​ Our continued focus on sustainable practices has translated into external recognition across leading global sustainability and industry platforms. Biocon secured 17th position among BW India’s Top 60 Most Sustainable Companies 2025 and has been included in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for the fourth consecutive year, alongside winning the Excellence in ESG Award at the ET Re Pharma Awards 2026. Melanoma is one of the most serious forms of skin cancers, with global cases projected to rise by more than 50% by 2040 according to a study published in JAMA Dermatology.​ However, the Skin Cancer Foundation states melanoma is highly treatable when detected early, with survival rates exceeding 90% in many early-stage cases. Advances in treatment are also improving outcomes for many patients.​ Melanoma can begin with subtle changes in the skin. Dermatologists recommend paying attention to the ABCDE signs of melanoma: asymmetry, irregular borders, uneven colour, diameter larger than 6 mm, or an evolving shape or size, itching or bleeding. ​ These signs can help support earlier detection and timely medical attention.​ Listen to your skin. For people living with uveitis – an inflammatory eye condition – symptoms such as blurred vision, eye pain, redness or sensitivity to light can appear suddenly and become a persistent problem. If left untreated, uveitis can cause serious complications such as cloudy lenses, retinal damage and, in severe cases, partial or permanent loss of vision. In June 2025, @Biocon_FDN, in partnership with @BeSTCluster and @NCBS_Bangalore, launched BioWISE (Bio Women in STEM Empowered)—an initiative to expand access, participation and retention of women from Tier 2 and 3 institutions across Karnataka in the life sciences. Today, that vision is translating into on-ground impact. On April 2, 2026, the first cohort of 15 postgraduate scholars was formally onboarded at the Biocon Campus, beginning a six-month internship and mentorship journey across NCBS, IBAB, IISc and Biocon. The program creates a structured pathway for academic talent to transition into scientific careers. In addition to the postgraduate cohort, 10 undergraduate students are set to join the program in the coming months. Through scholarships, industry exposure, lab immersion, mentorship and structured career guidance, BioWISE aims to equip young women with the skills, confidence and professional networks they need to thrive as future scientists.
