We are very proud of our @Saar_UniB.Sc. student Smilla Koy for winning the Euro #Cilia2027 image competition. A well-deserved recognition of her amazing work. We're lucky to have such talent in the lab!
🏆 GRAND PRIZE WINNER 🏆
Congrats to Smilla-Maria Koy (BSc Student, Mick Lab, Saarland University, Germany) for winning our Image Competition!
🔬 "IMCD3 Spheroid with Cilia" captures primary cilia emerging into the lumen to show cell polarity.
#FluorescenceFriday#cilia.
ALT Confocal image of a hollow spheroids with apical ZO-1 signal and primary cilia emerging from the apical site pointing towards the lumen. This 3D technique is used to assess apicobasal polarity characteristics in cells, where primary cilia play an important role in establishment and maintenance.
🏆 Second Prize Winner! Congrats to PhD student @chandrama_ghosh (Kodjabachian Lab,IBDM,France) for "Cells in Bloom"! 🌸 These "flowers" in the image are actually cells on a live frog embryo's skin. 🐸Magenta: Cell membranes & cilia;Green: Basal bodies #cilia#FluorescenceFriday
📢 Good news: the abstract deadline for the FASEB Conference on Cilia and Centrosomes has been extended to June 23.
If you missed the original deadline, there’s still time to submit your abstract and join us in Washington, DC, August 2–6.

Excited to share our new paper in Science Advances on the proteome of neuronal primary cilia. We found that neuronal cilia are enriched in postsynaptic signaling proteins, including mGluR5, GABAB receptors, GPR158, ion channels, and transporters.

Last year, a baby boy with a life-threatening metabolic condition became the world’s first patient to receive a personalized gene-editing treatment.
The feat could pave the way for gene editors tailored to people with unique or ultrarare mutations.

🚨Why can’t mammals regenerate limbs like frog tadpoles or salamanders?
In our new paper in @ScienceMagazine, we show that species-specific oxygen sensing acts as a gatekeeper for initiating limb regeneration 🐭🐸

What would it look like to see all ~13,000 proteins inside a single human cell at once?
We share ProtiCelli — a generative model that makes this possible. Besides benchmarking, we demonstrate utility in many tasks.
