"Leadership from the governor down was visible, energetic and knowledgeable. Prisoners were treated as individuals, and we found many examples of good care"
HMP Gartree - a positive culture built on excellent relationships between staff and prisoners. Read our inspection report - justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/… And our media release - justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/… And see the healthy prison scores -

Absolutely important we play a part In Reducing reoffending by providing opportunities and hope. Business leaders also need to play their part; give ex-prisoners a chance.
Employing ex-prisoners helps to reduce reoffending & make communities safer. HM Government has committed to hiring 1,000 prison-leavers across the Civil Service by end of 2023. Great piece on benefits of hiring ex-offenders today: thetimes.co.uk/article/99b80…

Had a great day at HMO Gartree celebrating with my heroes on #HiddenHeroesDay on Wednesday. We had lunch together, presented well deserved awards and raised a few pounds for charity.

It’s a pleasure to see that domestic visits started this week with some of our prisoners able to physically see their loved ones. Steady pace to opening up our regime, and prison, safely at HMP Gartree.

We continue to call on government to give priority for all those in prisons for C19 Vaccinations. This informative thread illustrates one of the reasons we make this call.

1/4. New @NuffieldTrust analysis comparing the no of Covid-19 cases in prisons to the general population over the last 6-months. Age-sex standardised case rates per 1,000 have consistently been higher in prison, despite the extended lockdown across the prison estate.

Unimaginable risks are faced by frontline prison staff; those imprisoned are also at risk. Its unlikely society would except mass early release to reduce these risks. It may be unpopular but those in prisons should be included as a specific group to receive priority vaccinations

Saw the video and I cried for the lack of humanity and respect for an individual’s life. Surely there is an issue with police training in 🇺🇸 with worrisome killings especially against African Americans. Right call by the Mayor and now make them accountable!
Thread: Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey calls the incident with a 40-something year old black man who died while under arrest “wrong on every level.” A FB video shows an MPD officer pinning the man down as he says he can’t breathe. “This does not reflect the values of MPD.” #wcco
