As the Domestic Violence Act Coalition, we know that caring for ourselves is essential to sustaining the movement for justice. Every time we convene, we hold wellness sessions that center self-care, reminding us that resilience begins within.
Last week, the Domestic Violence Act Coalition dedicated 3 days to deepening solidarity, enhancing our capacity for evidence based advocacy, and strengthening the resilience and sustainability of our coalition in the face of emerging challenges. It was a truly impactful convening.
@igagapy, @CEDOVIPuganda, reflected on the practical implications of implementing the @_AfricanUnion Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (AU-CEVAWG), particularly for Member States navigating resource and institutional constraints.
She highlighted the importance of aligning continental ambition with national capacity, recognising that financing demands, reporting standards, and prosecution obligations under the Convention must be supported by realistic implementation pathways within the African Union system.

African citizens must be meaningfully involved in shaping policy frameworks that affect the continent, and more deliberately, African women must be at the centre of these processes.

It has been widely recognised that African citizens must be meaningfully involved in shaping policy frameworks that affect the continent, and more deliberately, African women must be at the centre of these processes. It is against this background that, together with @WomenProbono, @amwaafrika, @Uganetlaw, and @CEDOVIPuganda, we are convening a critical consultative conversation on shaping Ugandaโs voice on the @_AfricanUnion Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (AU-CEVAWG).
This consultation forms part of preparations for the GIMAC-organised regional engagement, where countries including Uganda, Togo, and Senegal will host breakout sessions to share country-specific contexts and perspectives, all contributing towards the final processes of signing and ratification. We believe that strong, collective voices are essential to shaping meaningful engagement on this Convention.

Power should never silence the voices it is meant to serve, especially the voices of women who are often most affected. Protect democracy, accountability, and the rights of every Ugandan, with a strong focus on womenโs rights and gender equality.
We stand firmly against the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026, which undermines civic freedoms, public participation, and womenโs rights. Uganda deserves laws that empower women and girls, not restrict them.
#RejectTheSovereigntyBill
When girls are connected, they can safely report abuse, can access information about their rights, can reach support networks and services and eventually reclaim their power.#EmpowermentThroughAndInnovation

Happening Today.

Last week, we dedicated 3 days to engaging with members of the Referral Points Network in Kampala โ including government institutions and CSOs supporting survivors of VAW. Together, we exchanged best practices and strengthened collaboration for more effective responses to VAW.
Today, on #WorldHealthDay, we think about what health really looks like for women at the grassroots, especially those who are working while caring for their families.
As these street cleaners share the challenges they face, itโs a reminder that many working mothers, including breastfeeding women, often navigate long hours, limited support, and little space to meet their own health needs. Our work continues to push for environments that recognize, support, and protect womenโs health and dignity as they work. ๐
