~2.5 yrs ago @HornbergerLab asked me a simple question, “do I think fast fibers atrophy with age because the myofibrils get smaller or are lost?” My response, “I don’t know, but we could find out with your new FIM-ID approach.” 👇 is what we discovered! #myotwitter
1/ Why do muscles atrophy with aging and disuse? Is it because each tiny little myofibril gets smaller… or is it because we lose myofibrils? In our new study, we addressed this in humans and mice. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… Full breakdown of the findings in this thread 👇

Beautiful sequence of studies by @HornbergerLab that continues to redefine our understanding of how muscle grows in response to mechanical stimuli! The data on fiber lengthening also have very important ramifications for how we interpret IHC data. Congratulations all! #myotwitter
Thrilled to share our new @ScienceAdvances paper where we provide evidence that mechanical stimuli drive skeletal muscle growth through TWO distinct mechanisms—and use BONCAT to visualize where the growth occurs. Take a look: science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

Congratulations to @Zepeda_CS for completing the first big study of his dissertation. Some thought provoking results on the role of #myonuclei in fiber type-specific #atrophy with #aging! #myotwitter
Excited to share that the first study of my dissertation is now available on bioRxiv! Huge thank you to @CWSundberg, collaborators @KevinMurachPhD @CoryDungan, and everyone else involved for their help with the project! biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Thrilled to have officially moved my lab to @UWMadison! Looking forward to collaborating with amazing colleagues in #aging, #skeletalmuscle, and #metabolism research, and to being part of the RISE-THRIVE initiative's focus on improving human healthspan.
Recruited through the WI RISE-THRIVE Initiative, which focuses on the study of healthspan, Dr. Christopher Sundberg is investigating links between muscle fatigue, mobility and healthy aging. Read a Q&A with him: medicine.wisc.edu/news/01092…

Impressive!!! Beautiful sequence of studies @HornbergerLab @mackinprof and colleagues! The 🏋️‍♂️🚴‍♂️ to 🐭 design is such a powerful approach to unlocking the secrets of how exercise elicits so many adaptations! Congratulations!! #myotwitter
1/10 Excited to write this thread summarizing our new paper in @NatMetabolism, which identifies a potentially critical part of the signaling pathway that drives skeletal muscle growth in response to resistance exercise! Free link rdcu.be/el9am #Myotwitter @NIH_NIAMS
