Big OOO engine, strong IPC, big L2 cache huge bLLC. NVL is going to be a gaming monster.
Interesting news!!! NVL ES starts shipping! And the ST perf of 52C is around 1.2X at least due to IPC, bLLC, AVX10.2 & APX (1.3X being optimistic). MT perf is expected to be around 1.8X to 2.0X.
This kinda perf with new features bLLC kinda puts a serious damper on the competition (Zen 6). Remember, the outdated ARL is already pretty much on par with Zen 5 non-X3D. Now that NVL is getting higher IPC, bLLC, AVX, APX, fabric & MC fixes, I don't think Zen 6 stands that much of a chance anymore.
Zen 6 getting slightly higher clocks than NVL, while NVL getting slightly higher IPC than Zen 6 is *not* the defining factor anymore. NVL 52C will crush Zen 6 in raw performance due to the *new* features plus the massive core counts (assuming close enough cache sizes).
Note: Zen 5 non-X3D with AVX-512 is barely able to keep up with ARL without AVX-512 in GB6 ST. And NVL is getting AVX10.2 & APX & bLLC while Zen 6 GB6 ST *gains* will be peanuts considering Zen 5 *already* has AVX-512 & X3D (yep, *already*). That's a double whammy for NVL assuming you understand the implications. Think hard!!!
Against NVL 52C, Zen 6 is literally screwed!!!
Performance crown for the upcoming desktop generation rests solely with Intel Nova Lake 52C in gaming, ST & even MT. And as for laptops, Intel NVL mobile takes the crown in *all* aspects as expected. Intel is set to rule both desktop & laptops (clients/consumer) in the upcoming generation. Nova Lake is in & Zen 6 is out this time.
