Ghana is set to file a resolution at the United Nations on March 25, 2026, to have the transatlantic slave trade declared as one of the greatest crimes against humanity. President John Mahama has led the African Union's call for reparations, demanding that former colonial powers provide compensation for the injustices of slavery and colonialism. Speaking on behalf of the President during an engagement with Jamaicaās Prime Minister, Ghana's Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the goal of this push is to ensure reparations, restitution and justice for Africans who suffered from the slavery.
