New levels of disrespect from Real Madrid today. I would say I can’t believe it…but that would be lying šŸ˜‚ Culture of superiority eating them from the inside

How do you survive at the top of tennis in the strongest era the sport has ever seen? Kyle Edmund reached world number 14, became British number one, made a Grand Slam semi-final, won two ATP titles…and played against the likes of Djokovic, Nadal & Federer. But what does it take to get there, stay there and then work out who you are when it ends. @kyle8edmund left home at 13 to pursue tennis properly. By the time most people are still working out what they want to do, he had already committed to one of the most demanding individual sports in the world. No team to hide behind. No shared responsibility. No guaranteed income unless you win. And as Kyle explains, even reaching the top does not remove the pressure. Coaches. Physios. Travel. Hotels. Taxes. Agents. The costs of staying competitive are enormous, and unless you are consistently winning at the highest level, the business of being a tennis player is far more fragile than people realise. Then there is the other side… Injuries. Retirement at 30; the reality of waking up one day without the thing that has defined your life since childhood. This is a rare look inside the world of elite tennis from someone who has lived every part of it. All on Business of Sport šŸ”„ (links below)

Grimsby Town are back in the playoffs. A club that has been through just about everything over the last decade is now one game away from Wembley. But as ever, there’s more to this than the result. Polly Bancroft, one of a handful of female CEOs in the Football League, is leading a club that feels like it’s moving in the right direction on every front. When she joined, the men’s team had just finished 16th. Now you’re looking at playoffs, promotion on the women’s side, and a club with real momentum. And what stood out in this conversation was simple… clarity. Clarity of vision. Clarity of identity. Clarity of what the club is actually trying to be. šŸ—£ļø ā€œThe vision was to climb through the leagues… and that applies to both the men’s and women’s teams.ā€ But the part that really hits is the role the club plays beyond football. It’s 100,000 people connected to one badge. It’s a community asset that reaches into schools, families, local businesses. And when moments hit, they matter. That night against Manchester United… 9 million people watching, global attention, and a 40% increase in audience that the club has managed to hold onto. That’s what football at this level can do, and why the English Pyramid is one of the best things in football. Whatever happens in the playoffs for @officialgtfc, this is a club with a lot to be excited about. All on Business of Sport šŸ”„ (links below) @grimsbytownlive @GrimsbyLive @TheFishyGTFC

The ownership not appreciating the importance of the connection through a complete lack of application to the real business they’ve bought into doesn’t surprise me (begrudgingly), but to have no one advising them or with the influence to advise on why this is so important is as mad as it is terminally damaging

🚨 The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust wrote a lengthy letter to the club’s ownership, board of directors and senior leadership team on April 16 in which they asked them to answer four questions around the model, strategy, supporter engagement and accountability in Football decisions. But…. Chelsea have given them zero response. (@kierangill_DM)

What actually happens between a player and an agent at the highest level? Too often it’s reduced to headlines around money, transfers and ego. But the reality is far more nuanced and far more important. Chris Richards, @CPFC defender, @EmiratesFACup winner and @USMNT Player of the Year, sits down with his agent Alan Redmond to tell us how it really works. From a first contract at Dallas, to being signed by Bayern Munich, to becoming a Premier League regular, Chris’ journey is anything but typical. And at the centre of it all is trust. Not transactions, not quick moves, but long-term thinking, honest conversations and choosing the right moments. This is a story shaped as much by decisions off the pitch as performances on it. A football club is a 365 media business...well that's how they need to be thinking. I have yet to interview a club outside the Premier League (and even a few of them!) who have a bigger media team than we do at @bizzofsport ...it’s mental. And it’s not because they’ve nailed AI adoption! How much you can spend is now linked to how much you make. Being 'good' at media/content doesn't just happen. It's an investment. Make that investment!!

The main man himself @Maheta_Molango in the studio for round 2! I certainly got the feeling that the gloves are off. He couldn’t be clearer on what needs to happen to protect players and football: the product. But will the powers that be listen? @PFA @bizzofsport (Full showšŸ‘‡)

We released our assessment of the BlueCo ā€˜project’ on @bizzofsport a couple of weeks ago post the news of record losses and yet more fines. After last night’s Champions League exit (humiliation), the heat on this ownership intensifies. I’m a fan. What’s happening to the club is wrong. BUT as we talk about, I’m sorry to say this ownership isn’t going anywhere soon. That is nothing to do with stubborn resistance. It’s PE fund lifecycle, and the extreme and increasing pressure they will now be under to return for their investors. With no stadium plan, underperforming (being generous) revenues, and a team that nowhere near represents value for the Ā£1.5bn or so spent on them, it’s looking like ā€˜a rising tide lifts all boats’ scenario is the only thing that will save them…and that is not good enough. Analysis below šŸ‘‡
