Just like 1969, people stopped what they were doing to watch the launch of @NASA #ArtemisII. @MarksPub turned all TV's of sports and to the launch. All music turned off and the launch commentator audio volume all the way up. No complaints. It's comforting to know we still have it

As yet another preemptive war is begun in the Middle East, John Quincy Adam’s words of wisdom still ring true: “Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.” Like most Americans I have sympathy for the plight of the Iranian people and all subjected people around the globe, from North Korea to Tibet. But as Adam’s wrote, America:  “goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.” The Constitution conferred the power to declare or initiate war to Congress for a reason, to make war less likely.   Madison wrote that “the Executive Branch is the branch most prone to war, therefore, the Constitution, with studied care, delegated the war power to the legislature.” As with all war, my first and purest instinct is wish Americans soldiers safety and success in their mission.   But my oath of office is to the Constitution, so with studied care, I must oppose another Presidential war.

Americans woke up this morning to news that the U.S. and Israel have started major military action against Iran. Unlike the U.S. strike on Iran back in June, this operation doesn’t appear to be a one-and-done, so we’re thinking about the safety of our servicemembers and their families. Likewise, many Michiganders have family in the Middle East who are at risk right now as Iran is striking a number of countries. We pray for their safety as well. As a former CIA officer who served three tours in Iraq, I have no love lost for the Iranian government. They’re a state sponsor of terror, responsible for the deaths of Americans. I saw it up close in Iraq and elsewhere. But issues of war and peace should be treated with the utmost consequence. And President Trump hasn’t made his case to the American people. He hasn’t laid out the goals or the imminent threat posed by Iran that justifies risking a wider regional war. And he hasn’t followed the Constitution and brought this issue before Congress before committing our nation to war. Most elected leaders — including President Trump himself — have condemned the rush to war without clear goals in the past. He owes the American people the same thing he was demanding of previous presidents if he’s going to put lives at risk. And Congress should come back to Washington to debate these issues.

There has been no harsher critic to U.S. military action in Iran than Pope Leo XIV: “War is back in vogue and a zeal for war is spreading.  The principle established after the Second World War, which prohibited nations from using force to violate the borders of others, has been completely undermined. “Peace is no longer sought as a gift and a desirable good in itself, or in the pursuit of the establishment of the ordered universe willed by God, with a more perfect form of justice among men and women.” “Instead, peace is sought through weapons as a condition for asserting one’s own dominion. “This gravely threatens the rule of law, which is the foundation of all peaceful civil coexistence.”

I guarantee you every FBI agent from Washington, D.C., to Phoenix has been working the Nancy Guthrie case tirelessly. They probably didn’t have time to watch the hockey game this morning, yet Kash Patel had no problem using taxpayer dollars to take his private jet to Milan to see the game in person. What a putz.

The “River Visual” approach to runway 19 at DCA is one of the most fun approaches you can fly in an airliner. Essentially, it’s a twisting & descending flight path – flown visually by following the Potomac – that rolls out aligned w/ runway 19 only at the very last second. You can back up the visual with a GPS overlay to give you some guidance, and it’s your choice to fly it by hand or not, but I recommend hand flying…sometimes automation isn’t managed well on this kind of an approach. Do not go East of the River, or you’re in restricted & prohibited airspace. A common error is not managing your speed & altitude well, resulting in being too high & fast when you roll out at the last second to align with the runway, resulting in a go-around. I see this regularly when waiting to takeoff. I recommend passengers keep the window shade open; the left side gets a great view of the city, but it’s neat from both sides.

@WTOPtraffic downtown DC is gridlock along and around K and 15th as far as the eye can see. No traffic control and people blocking the box making it impossible. We've moved 3 blocks in 52 minutes.

NO ICE IS SAFE ICE! 🧊🚷 Just because a pond or lake is frozen doesn't mean the ice is strong enough to support you. Please do not walk, play, or skate on any frozen ponds, lakes, or bodies of water! No ice is 100% safe.

Space Heaters, appliances.. ❌Never overload electrical outlets or power strips. ✅Learn power requirements of items you plan to plug in. If items exceed circuit capacity, you are overloading the circuit & creating a likely fire hazard. @mcfrs Safety Tips: bit.ly/2KX6VYD
