Theres a lot of vagueness to this scene but I think it works in the movies favor here. Dooku's contradictory motivations make him a much more interesting character
Dooku might have been the bad guy, but he was not wrong if only they had listened to him earlier, a lot would have been avoided. Sometimes, it proves that you should sometimes listen to your enemy when they are telling you the truth
