Not trad but this doesn’t ring true at all. Reb Tevye from fiddler felt the world changing around him but he responded by doubling down on his commitment to tradition.
The implication by OP is that people only went along with their traditions passively and didn’t intentionally try to preserve and commit to them - and that trads today are larping for doing this.
But Reb Tevye did care about these things and he wasn’t larping- his traditions weren’t dead - but they were on life support bc of the persecution he and the other Russian Jews faced - but his traditions and people survived *because* he cared enough to preserve them.
The evidence that Reb Tevye isn’t an anomaly or an unrepresentative fiction is that these traditions were preserved at all - it’s always easier to abandon customs in a chaotic world - that they survived anyways suggests that there were lots of people like Reb Tevye
