Powered by the Wells-Riley model, our 3D simulations show how pathogens spread and how interventions (like better ventilation) help reduce risks. Ideal for classrooms, offices, and more. airsupportproject.com/introd…

Looking for volunteers! I along with the help of a few others are building a Mask Recommender Based on Facial Features. TLDR: Goal: scan a face with a phone to get accurate facial measurements, and get a list of masks that have high probability of fitting that individual's face.

Scenarios for how this tweet happened: public health wants to tell people it's dangerous but is being muzzled (unlikely) public health is trolling CC twitter (unlikely but not impossible) public health pays more attention to pop culture than public health (very likely)

Earlier in the pandemic, there was a meme going around among covid cautious people that I didn't think made sense: "after the 10th infection the mice were all dead". Mice don't live very long. By the time you've infected mice ten times, they're at the end of their lifespan.

Read this story. "This mother made six attempts to raise the alarm about her sick toddler. Doctors told her he’d be fine. They were fatally wrong." And guess what the culprit was. 😮😥 theguardian.com/lifeandstyle…

When I hear that someone over 60 'has had a fall' my first question now is to ask whether they had the bug that's going round. Nine out of ten times, family members say yes. Covid infection causes falls for older people.

I had a message today about a member of our community who is now badly ill with Covid after going to visit her mum who was in hospital with an infection. Meanwhile, her mum has died from the infection. The daughter tested herself for Covid. The hospital never tested her mum.

What is the point of being in hospital if they don't actually test to determine the underlying cause of an infection? Anti virals definitely lessen the effects of a Covid infection, may have prevented the death! Sheer negligence. 😠

Why aren't they testing... Multiple pressures as far as I can see: Reduced budget for Covid related costs. Personal desire to downplay the problem of covid. Pressure from government to reduce numbers. Bureaucratic and practical complications of positive tests. Institutional ignorance around conditions caused by covid. Instructions only to test people who are eligible for treatment, but reduced numbers of people eligible for treatment. Government message that it's nothing to worry about since vaccinations.

I've got so many medical professionals as friends or family, which comes from growing up in circles that highly value both compassion and science. Talking to them is so hard now. Last week I had a conversation with a friend who's a consultant.

I felt like that was the limit of how far we could discuss covid. You can see when people are becoming unhelpfully uncomfortable.

"Teen brains 'aged' during Covid lockdowns, new research suggests" I know it is difficult to accept the reality, but let's try together: accelerated cortical thinning of teen brains (and anyone else) is caused by a direct viral infection in the brain, not lockdowns. #NeuroCovid
Teen girls were more adversely affected by the pandemic lockdown than teen boys, with girls’ brains aging more than three times as much, a UW study found. st.news/47Daywz

“Young, healthy individuals with mild cases had objective cognitive deficits at 1-year that they did not perceive.” People keep on insisting it’s just a mild cold… And research keeps on coming out showing it is definitely not. 🤦🏽‍♂️ The denialism is literally killing us…

This week in key Covid publications: —Young, healthy individuals with mild cases had objective cognitive deficits at 1-year that they did not perceive —Older, hospitalized adults with severe Covid had an equivalent of 20 years of decline in cognitive performance at 1-year follow-up —A nasal vaccine (2 doses) blocked infections for at least 3 months and was effective across 10 different variants —Reinfections increase the risk of #LongCovid —mRNA shots don't induce long-lived plasma cells, but we don't know if this is true with other vaccine platforms Reviewed in the new, updated edition of Ground Truths (link in my profile)
