“We have rules: Protect basket…declare ball…load paint…find most dangerous guy…last guy down weak side…We turn over etc…sprint back…high level next play speed…separates good teams from great"

Joe Stasyszyn on the “price of being nice”
He says there is a difference between being a nice coach and a good coach and a good coach doesn’t want to be the players’ friend

College Coaches:
If you need any information or have any questions about any of our Derby High players playing at the live period games in Cincinnati, Tulsa, or KC this weekend, do not hesitate to reach out. We ask them to be the hardest playing dudes on their respective teams!
I’m beyond thankful and blessed to announce my commitment to McPherson College to continue my academic and basketball career. None of this would be possible without my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. #gobulldogs#agtg
After a great conversation with @CoachLou_3, I am blessed to receive my first offer from McPherson College. Grateful for the opportunity. #gobulldogs#agtg@MacBulldogsMBB
A high school basketball team doesn't have to be full of future D1 players to dominate. It just needs:
- Seven kids willing to defend like their lives depend on it.
- A leader who makes EVERYONE around them better.
- A coach who knows success is about culture, not schemes.
“I’m attracted to the dark side of greatness. The gap between a hero and a villain is very similar to the gap between winning and losing and good to great. The gap is so much closer than people think. It’s the very small fundamental details that separate you,” Joe Mazzulla
The immeasurable value of fundamentals.
“Now we’re just supposed to hug and kiss everybody. You know what? Do your job right. Go to class and you won’t hear about not going to class. Kids have so many distractions they don’t stay focused on the task at hand. Accountability is going to be big until I leave,” Tom Izzo
Bill Self tells me as of now there is no news to report regarding his decision. In fact he told me "b.s., bad info" referring to some comments out there. That's as of now from the head coach.
Houston HC Kelvin Sampson - Why Coaches Fail
- "I think the coaches that fail at every level, are the coaches that are passive aggressive. Passing aggressive coaches are usually afraid to hold kids accountable, they rationalize."
- "If you're going to build a culture, the first thing you have to come to grips with, you're going to have confrontation."
- Consistency
- Competence
- Confidence
- Confrontation
Tom Izzo shares an uncomfortable truth about earning your spot.
"You play real good, you start. You don't play as good, you work your way back in."
"That's the American way - except America has gotten soft."
You don't get what you want in life - you get what you earn.
It starts with showing up and earning it every single day.
No shortcuts...Just hard work.

Incredible take from Charles Barkley on Tom Izzo:
"The media, who don't know anything about sports, say 'Why is he yelling his players?' That's called coaching... if parents & friends get mad because you're getting yelled at, get better parents & better friends."
Ben McCollum, NCAA Tournament win
What does he look for in a recruit:
“We want [guys] that have won in high school... they expect to win.... of the things that will get you out of our program.. moody, soft... lack of toughness kids."

"The teachers that I loved back in fifth grade and fourth grade allow you to watch. Right?
The really good teachers allow you to watch games during school." - Travis Steele

PARENTS: One day, our kids will be finished playing sports and they will be adults raising their own kids. The best thing that we can do now is to teach them how to be good, happy people so they can, in turn, one day raise good, happy people.
