Today is going to be a little bit unique. It's the Oxfordshire SFA County team that I coach, playing against the Schulz team that I'm taking to the Gothia Cup. looking at the squad makeup for the county team, while tournament prepping with the gothia team, I'm going to be busy!

Complex, not complicated. This is the first in a poster series exploring the principles of play β€” the ideas beneath formations, tactics, styles, and coaching preferences. Part 1: strip the game back to its essential truths. It's Principles.

Motivation is a facinating thing. When I started it was to spend time with my son. It turned into seeing how far I could go with my coaching. Now, it's to have a positive impact on others (as you can see in the photos) What's your motivation and has it changed? #SundayShare

It's good to understand your 'why' and reassess from time to time. Your 'why' is what drives you, and knowing what drives you is the key to maintaining momentum, motivation, and making aligned decisions to help you reach your goals.

One of the biggest mistakes in youth football: Acting like development and winning are opposites. ⚽️ I don't think they are. In fact, I think players need both. Here's why 🧡 #SundayShare

Possession Breakout Practice: βœ…Topic: Breaking lines πŸ’ Principle: Receive between lines πŸ’ Time: 4 x 6 minutes πŸ’ Area: 65 x 56 yards πŸ’ Players: 15 outfields 1 GK βœ…Set-Up πŸ’ Team Blue: 9 players πŸ’ Team Red: 6 players πŸ’ Team Red starts in the possession area with 3 Blue players pressing, creating a 6v3. βœ…How It Works: πŸ’ Phase 1: Team Red completes 6 passes, then 3 Red players break forward to create a 3v2 and try to score. πŸ’ Phase 2: After the attack ends, Team Blue builds out in a 9v6 and tries to score in the mini-goals. βœ…Coaching Points πŸ’ Receive between lines with an open body shape. πŸ’ Play forward quickly when the opponent is disorganized. πŸ’ Make sure the 3v2 ends with a shot. @JB_SoccerCoach @power_ray @CoachingFamily @TheS_Resource @JustcoachMD @CoachRobPorter @SessionShareNet @205_Academy @Coach_Osku @rf14coach @playersessionHQ @tom_skeath @CoachDavidBaird @d1kicker

It's less than a month until the Gothia Cup startsπŸ”₯ We got the group yesterday, and although I was hoping for a bit more variety in opposition, it will still be interesting to challenge ourselves against Swedish teams in the group stage. Who else on here is heading over?

One coaching mistake I see all the time: We coach the player with the ball... But ignore everyone else. ⚽️ Here's why that matters 🧡

It was interesting talking to a coach recently who wasn't looking forward to working with a new group, as it was out of his comfort zone. I'm the complete opposite, as I love to challenge myself. It's difficult, but getting out of your comfort zone is great for development 🧡

Once you start to get yourself out of your comfort zone more, it improves you as a coach. You start to become more comfortable in uncomfortable situations, and in turn that helps you in your normal coaching sessions, as you'll find it easier to manage any challenges that arise.

If I didn't push myself to do things like... Coaching in a prison Delivering CPD events with a new group of players, infront of a group of coaches Public speaking infront of large groups Talking on camera for interviews or webinars I wouldn't be who I am now.

Controlling the ball from the air looks effortless… but there’s one secret all great players share in this video πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‰ They watch the ball ALL THE WAY to their touch. But here’s the full picture: they’re not just staring blindly. They’ve already scanned their surroundings firstβ€”knowing exactly where opponents, space, and teammates are. That awareness lets them focus 100% on a clean, first touch. Scan πŸ‘€ β†’ Track 🎯 β†’ Control βœ… Master this, and aerial control becomes second nature. #FootballSkills #BallControl #SoccerTraining #FirstTouch #FootballTips

I honestly don't think that this session couldn't have gone much better. Quarry asked me if I could work with their goalkeepers to help them with their basics, and give their coaches some tips. Tonight we worked on the set position, the scoop, the cup & the W. Happy GK coach🧀
Goalkeeper session at @quarryrovers with @CoachRobPorter We had 16 keepers, age 8-14, boys and girls. Brilliant session, happy kids, engaged coaches. Thank you Rob!
