Great to team up with @spurnbirdobs in a joint Motus Tracking Project on Jack Snipe (supported by @britishbirds). The first birds were tagged in the #LDV last night and we're now looking forward to seeing what results this project unearths - thanks to everyone involved.
Here is a little sketch of me and my partner's patch where we regularly go birding, looking north. It's a beautiful and unique little area with diverse habitat and a variety of birds.
Borran's Park, Ambleside.
Great past two days birding. Yesterday Moss Eccles & Wise Een Tarns with @Millie_Chandler included highlights of barn owl 5 goldeneye and 15 tufted duck. Then today a mornings patch birding at Borrans Park in lovely weather included at least 1 (of 2) long staying shag. eBird 👇
Lovely views of 2 Bewick’s swans off Moss lane yesterday with a minimum of 70 whoopers. Also lovely but brief views of the black redstart at Knot End-on-Sea takes me to 💯 for the year. @FyldeBirdClub

Distant views of 1 of the 2 shags that have been seen on patch off Borrans Park on Windermere. Nice way to get going with my patch year list taking me to 42 species for the year so far. #patchbirding#cumbriabirds#PWC2025

After a brief view of the Ross's Gull when it shot through my scope whilst seawatching this morning at Whitburn. I was pleased when it was refound at South Shields and I could spend some time enjoying it.
Amazing views of a Drake smew @tophilllow today on the D res. Also 1st winter little gull at North Duffield Carrs & an interesting duck associating with the wigeon (a wigeon hybrid?) but no sign of the American wigeon in the area.

A Halifax birding day out with @CogHarry with some Pintail madness!
1st went to Ringstone Edge to twitch two drakes found earlier, as it was a Halifax tick! Found 4 birds present!
Then checked Elland GP and had 3 females fly over with a Wigeon!
Just one other Halifax 2024 record!
Overdue patch tick in the form of a Cetti’s warbler at Borrans Park along the boardwalk west of the marsh. Still a rare bird in the Lake District!
Also two wigeon on the river Rothay was my second patch record and the first on the deck!
