Most people quit in the first 30 seconds. That's exactly when the magic starts.
I've done thousands of cold plunges. And every single time, my body goes through the same 5 stages:
1. Panic mode. Cold shock hits, blood vessels slam shut, BP spikes. Your brain is screaming GET OUT.
2. The shift. Sympathetic nervous system takes the wheel. Dopamine and noradrenaline start flooding in. Breathing stabilizes.
3. You're locked in. Dopamine is now up to 250% above baseline. This is where most people tap out. Don't.
4. Your metabolism kicks into overdrive to fight the drop in core temp. You're literally burning more fuel just sitting still.
5. The rebound. Vessels open back up, metabolic rate stays elevated, and that feeling? That's your biology rewarding you for doing hard things.
Your action step: Commit to 2 minutes, 3x this week. Don't adjust the temp. Don't distract yourself. Stay present. That's the whole practice.
