The Commission should deliver the promised deregulation VERY QUICKLY! We don't have a second to lose. The USA is pulling further and further ahead every day. If we don't want our children begging to clean toilets in the USA, we need to fix the economy NOW.

I cannot express how extremely severe for the UK this is. Even more severe for the EU. AI is the most powerful tool humans have ever created. Because European governments have regulated us all to death, we are now heading to a doom loop. That means businesses left behind unable to compete, always losing out. It’s means Governments at the mercy of superpowers. You can once again thank our utterly useless leaders for this. Their shortsightedness and hunger for power means we will all be vastly poorer in so many ways.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

EU keeps lagging. It is the fact When I came to Brussels in 2010 as EU Commissioner, 🇪🇺had the same nominal GDP as 🇺🇸; now, it is significantly lower, while 🇨🇳 has caught up to it. EU income per person is 70% of America’s & the gap is widening @KGeorgieva

Was invited to speak about transport infrastructure and energy security in the @Europarl_EN earlier this week. Fantastic discussion hosted by MEP Musiou and ROMOTANA. The Romanian community was extremely welcoming to a random British guy representing a Japanese company.

Massively looking forward to joining the @EU_EESC in Sofia in July. I'll be making the case for a laser focus on Europe's struggling industries. That means ambitious and meaningful deregulation, and a business first mindset in Europe. Through free markets will Europe thrive!
How can civil society defend Europe’s democratic values? Join @EU_EESC’s #ConnectingEU seminar in Sofia, 6–7 July, with leading voices including @DaveKeating, Sebastian Rodriguez, @ConnorAllenEU & many more! Programme👉link.europa.eu/KXTmRH Questions? press@eesc.europa.eu

I don't think it's a healthy dynamic that journalists across several outlets make themselves so readily available to serve in Commission power struggles. Europeans don't have the same institutional memory of Alastair Campbell style media management as Brits, which broke the UK.
It’s sad to see my former workplace trying to flog a dead horse. Yday the FT carried out a half-baked hit piece against Kaja Kallas. Later reporting by Euronews & Reuters shows it was BS. Now here’s Euractiv like “omg you’ll never guess what she said about Israel” Be better.

Never mind the politics. Never mind what it means for the Labour leadership. Ponder the seriousness of the claim which John Healey and Al Carns are making. Britain can no longer defend itself adequately.

There is not a single problem facing the EU that cannot be explained in a single tweet by a non-premium user, which is expanded into a purely descriptive and self-congratulatory 350-page staff working document anyway.

A devastating blow to the Prime Minister. Britains inability to pay its agreed share of defence projects has stained its reputation amongst allies. The admirable Mr Healy is absolutely correct to criticise the cannibalisation of defence to fund budget shortfalls elsewhere.

And in any case, as things stand now, downsizing the EEAS would only result in an even greater power grab for Ursula von der Leyen—who already acts, without any mandate, as a de facto foreign policy chief. She, in terms of her destructive role, far exceeds Kallas.
I would have to disappoint those who think the plans to downsize the EEAS have anything to do with Kallas. Her incompetence has certainly provided more ammunition, but the real driver is a shift back to an inter-governmental—rather than a EU-based—approach to foreign policy.

Another CEO of a major European corporation warning about the EU's insatiable desire to regulate all in its sight. If EU is to compete effectively, its officials must acknowledge that they don't know everything, can't predict the future, and so can't control the economy.

It's not fashionable to be pro-American in Brussels anymore, but the United States remains an inspiration for all of us who love liberty and freedom. So it's amazing that @MCC_Brussels have packed out the beautiful Cercle Royale Gaulois for a day of celebration and debate.

En betjent svarede: "I don’t think you have, mate."

EU tech policy is so surreal, arcane, perplexing and self-defeating that people are having problems distinguishing parody from reality.
Seems like there’s a range of fake/parody accounts trashing the EU’s tech policy - like @eurofounder @compliantvc @EUAITaxonomy … Fine, but not everyone gets it they’re parody and take a lot of stuff as truth.

It’s not your job to “find” the UK’s first trilion-dollar firm. If you want businesses to succeed in Britain, perhaps start by taxing less and removing the red tape that makes the business environment so hostile.
I want to find the UK’s first trillion-dollar firm. That’s why this morning I've unveiled our bespoke concierge service to support businesses of the future to start, scale, and stay in the UK. When I say I’m aggressively ambitious in pursuit of economic growth, I mean it.

Extremely sad that @MKarnitschnig will be stepping down at Euractiv. Matt has done excellent work in pushing the EU journalistic bubble to challenge itself and be better. He walks away from Euractiv with that institution so much stronger than before. Best wishes, Matt!

Taxpayer money deaerves better. Europeans pay the highest taxes in the developed world, and suffer from the largest public debts in the developed world. So why is the Commission spending millions on cooking lessons with celebrity chefs and billions to produce one building?

As the news of FCAS' demise breaks, no one has ever felt more vindicated than I do right now. Huge France L
Lessons for European defence here. Those familiar with #FCAS know what a disaster it has been for years now - chiefly because of France. France insisted on naval capability and Dassault as true design authority and refused to budge one inch from its unacceptable demands. The loudest voices in the room calling for 'European' defence are almost always French, but what they actually mean is replacing American firms with French firms and forming all rules, tenders, procedures and requirements around French needs. This is why European defence is dead in the water. It's a thinly veiled smokescreen for French ambition, and it won't go anywhere until it isn't.
Community note
"France insisted on naval capability" was an obvious and clearly stated contractual requirement since the beginning of FCAS, as France operates an aircraft carrier. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Co… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_ai… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Fr… If, as stated here, this issue is key to the failure of FCAS, then Germany is to blame for contract breach

Probably for the best. The blame here lies fully with France, who really need to learn lessons if they have ambitions for European defence. France demanded naval capability, even though it's partners do not have aircraft carriers. Ten years of arguments later, here we are.
The German government said it agreed with France to halt a €100 billion ($115 billion) joint fighter-jet project after persistent disputes and delays since it began nearly a decade ago bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

POV: You are a European Politician and an American has told you he doesn’t agree with one of your government’s policies
Vance intervention on Nowak case is unlikely to shift many views in the UK for simple reason he/Trump admin are very unpopular. 1. Trump's latest favourability is -52, he's underwater even with Reform voters at -7. 2. Vance's 'have you said thank you' to Zelenskyy is some of the most angry i've seen public on international affairs in focus groups, ditto remarks which seemed to suggest UK/France hadn't fought a war recently. 3.Pretty much the one thing Starmer gets unprompted positive feedback from in focus groups is 'standing up to US' over Iran 4. Even when people are frustrated with the UK. People don't like foreign powers telling us what to do whether European or American. 5. Images of ICE/Minnesota really cut through with wavering Reform voters who said they worried about that happening here and farage relationship with Trump is picked as top barrier to voting Reform especially among women. Not to say public aren't outraged about Nowak's murder and police handling, they want justice, want to know why it happened and many we know want potential structural causes of police response investigated including if race played a role. But Vance as messenger, nature of message including for many will be seen to contradict families wishes, means it's unlikely to be welcome addition for much of public.
