I survived 25 years on precarious contracts, taught 1000s of students, delivered quality research: ESRC funded, government reports.
My daughter still cries remembering how hard it was.
@oubucu and the Open University brought 4800 of us into permanent contracts - this is do-able.

I missed processing for my brilliant student. I helped her into a PhD, she knows my action is for her future working conditions & current learning conditions.
All my students are brilliant: Distinction, Pass, Failed-Because-Stuff. I want to be enabled to support them all 👩🎓💗✊.

20 days will be hard. I have a daughter at uni whose dad is also striking. I'll go to the hardship fund, especially if our employers take deductions in one lump like last time.
But I won't stand by seeing my daughter's and my students' education ruined.

Casualisation is a scourge. Universities can afford proper jobs. The OU just made 4800 Associate Lecturers permanent. They're now employing managers on fixed term contracts 🤯. This is about culture not finance.
