Shane Rothwell, from Blanchardstown, Co Dublin, contacted several hotels across Ireland in an attempt to book a one‑night break. Not one could provide a ceiling hoist, which he needs to transfer safely from his wheelchair to a bed. Mr Rothwell, who has cerebral palsy, told the Irish Independent: ā€œI was surprised. I knew it was bad but I didn’t think it was this bad. A €200 stay becomes €1,000 when I have to hire a hoist and pay two support workers.ā€ The disability activist said the process was ā€œmentally challengingā€, adding: ā€œI felt there’s no place for people living with disabilities in this world. Why do we have to go an extra mile when trying to book a hotel? ā€œI need to book a hoist and if I’m Āusing a manual hoist, I need two support workers, which I have to pay for.ā€ After compiling a list of hotels Āunable to provide hoists, he proceeded to contact several taxi companies and, across different dates, couldn’t secure a wheelchair‑accessible taxi. Ireland is ā€œbehindā€ in ā€œterms of developmentā€, Mr Rothwell said. ā€œI want to start seeing changes and the Government to be more invested in accessibility,ā€ he added. As things stand, we’re not treated equally If disability access and inclusion were prioritised, he said, disabled people would feel ā€œneeded and included in societyā€. Equality ā€˜on paper’ means little without real access #DisabilityRights #Equality independent.ie/irish-news/wh…

Cancer Trials Ireland launches report on the value of Cancer Clinical Trials for patients, taxpayers and Irish society in general. Government must solidify the funding base, address the regulatory quagmire, and make more trials available to more patients.

This is a devastating, disturbing read, the poor little boy, how anyone can be so cruel is incomprehensible, they should never be allowed out, pure evil
I have no hesitation in saying the step-mother and the father both should spend the rest of their lives in prison. That poor, innocent little boy. Just 4 years old. What a horrific read. irishtimes.com/crime-law/cou…

In shock and in tears, two children cry and bleed after an artillery strike that killed their mother. No location or side confirmed — a heartbreaking glimpse of Sudan’s war on civilians. #KeepEyesOnSudan

Today, we launch #CancerNeedsTrials. Cancer trials give patients access to tomorrow’s treatments today — but in Ireland, access is limited and funding is a barrier. We’re calling on the government to invest so more patients can benefit. Add your voice: bit.ly/4nos5iL #CancerNeedsTrials #CancerTrialsIreland

At this point we would ask all political parties to back our campaign to get #JusticForHarvey. Including seeing the resignation of @SimonHarrisTD The board of @CHI_Ireland to be disbanded, and for there to be a full public inquiry in to Children’s health Ireland spina bifida and complex orthopaedic care. These kids have been failed long enough and we need to see true systemic change brought in. #ResignHarris Please feel free to share and tag any politicians and political parties not already tagged below and put the pressure on @SocialistParty @sinnfeinireland @pb4p @SocDems @fiannafailparty @finegael @AontuIE @labour @greenparty_ie @catherinegalway @PresidentIRL @paulmurphy_TD @RuthCoppingerSP @MaryLouMcDonald @davidcullinane @MarkWardSF @GaryGannonTD @EmerHigginsTD @MichealMartinTD @HollyCairnsTD @ivanabacik @DuncanSmithTD @CarrollJennifer @1Hildegarde

Tanaiste @SimonHarrisTD needs to meet with Stephen and Gillian Skerret and he really needs to review and reflect. A child died and his family deserve answer and repercussions should be felt for Government. This cannot be allowed happen again.
