What is one stretch goal you have for your golf game? I am going to turn 50 in a couple years. I would really like to make the Cedar Rapids Senior Ryder Cup team. There's an annual match against Iowa City. The problem is, they don't take many 7 handicaps, so I have to figure out how to make time in my life to actually get better if I'm going to do that.

It's imo the right elbow and the correct release that determines the low point of the swing. These connected drills are nice but it's hard to release properly with a towel under your arms

Hip High Swings: This is the bulk of what I will do the first 15 minutes of a practice session. I always feel if I can see the ball fly like I want to with these hip high swings then my full swing is just an extension of this. This is a great way to work into your golf swing if you flip it, stand up through it, struggle with face control and low point. The simplicity of the hip high swings will expose compensations in your golf swings.

I’ve made plenty of jokes about Aaron Rai over the years. The two gloves, the iron covers, the AimPoint routine… he was almost too easy. But watching that final round, especially the last 10 holes, and then listening to his press conference after, completely changed my perspective. Calm. Humble. Grateful. Completely unshaken by the moment. I became an Aaron Rai fan, and honestly the kind of player I’d want my son looking up to.

I have caddied on Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour. Here are some things I did for my player that you can use in your own game. Note the amount of rollout on every green. When you hit an 8 iron, find your divot, walk off the distance to where the ball ended up. Write it down. That information becomes gold later in the round. Know where you putt best from. A putt that breaks slightly right to left is often easier to manage than a straight one. When you have options on approach, favor the side that gives you the putt you like. Plan your round the night before. Wind direction is on your weather app right now. If you know your course you can decide how you are going to play each hole before you ever get there. No decision fatigue on the course. You just execute. Chart your iron shots. Iron you hit. Wind direction. How far it flew. Find your divot, walk it off from where you measured, write down the number. Do it every round for a few months and you will know your distances better than you ever have. This sounds like a lot. It is at first. But once you start thinking this way you stop guessing. You stop second guessing your club choice on the 14th hole with water left. You step in with a number you trust and a plan you already made. That is where confidence comes from. Not the range. The data.
