This is such an interesting study and important overview of the metagenomic sequence diversity! There is a huge discrepancy in the distribution of diversity between cultivated microbes and metagenomes. i.e. Over 95% of the isolated species can't be recovered from metagenomes.😮

New paper out: New targets of the toxic heptapeptide MC-LR and other cyanobacterial compounds against the plant cell wall are described. This is the first report of cell-wall-modifying enzymes being affected by #cyanobacteria.

Fresh from the press in @MDPIOpenAccess: 4 new genera and 5 new species of microscopic green #algae isolated from lakes, water ponds, lagoons, and hot springs! All the new genera are named after the Naids (Greek mythology): Nomia, Ava, Akraea, Lilaea.
