July 17 is International Brachytherapy Day — honoring a powerful, lifesaving cancer treatment that delivers radiation directly inside or next to a tumor. 💡 What is brachytherapy? It’s a form of internal radiation therapy that allows for highly targeted treatment with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. For gynecologic cancers — especially cervical cancer — brachytherapy is a critical component of curative treatment. Yet in many low-resource settings, access remains limited due to equipment costs, infrastructure, and lack of trained specialists. IGCS is a multidisciplinary society, reflecting the diverse expertise required to provide comprehensive care. IGCS is proud to lead educational and mentorship and training initiatives that strengthen radiation therapy services around the world. This November, our Radiation Contouring Workshop in Cape Town (Nov 6) will feature hands-on image guided radiotherapy and brachytherapy training. Learn about IGCS Radiation Oncology Mentorship and Training Program: bit.ly/46OPcxJ Learn about the Radiation Contouring Workshop: bit.ly/4kFiDFX The first Brachytherapy Awareness Day was recognized in 2019, supported by several organizations including the American Brachytherapy Society and The Groupe Européen de Curiethérapie (GEC-ESTRO), which is a specialist group within the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). @aapmHQ @AmericanBrachy @ASTRO_org @ESTRO_RT #ThisisBrachytherapy #BrachytherapyAwarenessDay #CervicalCancer #GlobalOncology #RadiationOncology #IGCS2025n#MultidisciplinaryCare

This is what the Andromeda Galaxy looks like in ultraviolet light! About 20,000 different sources are visible in the image, mostly young hot stars and dense star clusters. They emit a lot of high-energy ultraviolet radiation.
