When Notre-Dame burned in 2019, the world stopped. Today, Russia damages Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a monastery nearly 1,000 years old and older than Notre-Dame itself. A thousand years of history deserves the same attention, the same sympathy, and the same protection.

Marie Doležalová was one of the children kidnapped by the Germans after they destroyed the Czech town of Lidice #OTD 84 years ago. Marie, just 15 years old, later testified against the Nazis at a subsequent Nuremberg trial.

Today, women in Afghanistan are being shot in the streets simply for anting an education, wanting a job. Wanting to work and wanting to walk outside without a man's permission. Taliban security forces killed one person and several wounded. Dozens arrested including women and girls. It started last Friday, when Taliban imams announced from mosque loudspeakers that women were forbidden from leaving their homes without full hijab, including face cover. Morality police flooded Herat's streets, markets, and shopping centers, batons in hand, arresting women for their clothing. Just one day after some men in the West rolled out the red carpet for the Taliban, normalizing them, legitimizing them, shaking their hands, you can see how savagely women being shot and beaten up in the streets.

Los niños de Lidice, una de las historias más tristes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En un rincón tranquilo de la República Checa, lejos del bullicio de Praga, se encuentra un monumento desgarrador. Son 82 estatuas de bronce a tamaño real: 42 niñas y 40 niños. Permanecen inmóviles sobre la hierba, mirando hacia el horizonte. Algunos parecen buscar a sus padres. Otros se apoyan en sus compañeros. Ninguno sonríe. No son figuras simbólicas. Cada rostro fue modelado a partir de fotografías reales de los niños de Lidice. La historia comenzó el 10 de junio de 1942. Como represalia por el atentado contra el alto oficial nazi Reinhard Heydrich, las fuerzas alemanas arrasaron por completo el pequeño pueblo de Lidice.
