Jawaharlal Nehru remains the longest-serving Prime Minister of India. However, as we know, selective use of data has become quite common these days; whether it’s GDP figures, economic rankings, or other statistics.
In this case too, only the period after the first general election appears to have been considered, whereas Nehru had already been serving as Prime Minister since 15 August 1947.
So, there is still a long way to go before Modi ji surpasses that record.
If a UPSC question asks, “Who is the longest-serving Prime Minister of India?”, the answer would still be Jawaharlal Nehru; unless the question specifically states that only post-election tenure is being considered.
At 4399 days, PM Modi becomes longest serving Prime Minister of India today.
