Elise Recluse was an influence on early social ecology as he was with other green anarchist perspectives. There are many anarchists who held ideas that put nature as an important element prior to Social Ecologies development in the 1960’s.

That said social ecology is the first type of “green-anarchism”, ascontemporary tendency of anarchism that centers ecological ideas. It built on ideas of people like Recluse at a time when anarchism itself was pretty much a dead tendency as Marxist-Leninism was the law of the day
