Nicole Shanahan addresses MAHA’s disappointment with Trump pick Brooke Rollins for Agriculture Secretary “I know a lot of farmers out there saw that pick and were really upset.” “It ended up going to Brooke Rollins, who is not someone I’ve ever come across in the agricultural world, certainly not within the regenerative agriculture world. A few weeks ago, there was a committee formed, wonderful, wonderful farmers … who were called by Bobby Kennedy’s team and the MAHA team. There was a committee put together to put together a list of farmers or entrepreneurs or leaders in the agriculture space who we would submit for consideration. True leaders in the soil and regenerative movement put together an exhaustive list. What I heard was that at Mar-a-Lago at the time, there was this horse-trading happening, and Agriculture was put into a different bucket than the HHS departments. I was very loud about that during our suspension of the campaign and endorsing Trump. I had hope that we would get Ag. When it came down to the last few days before the Ag pick was gonna be confirmed, I went out to everybody I knew. I went out to even Steve Bannon, who is literally Donald Trump’s biggest supporter, and he was on board. I was hearing murmurs that at the table at Mar-a-Lago … we got very close. John Kempf even got close to getting the nomination. They loved the idea of a real, regenerative Amish farmer representing an important cabinet position. But something happened, as it always seems to, and we got traded out for Brooke Rollins, who I honestly didn’t know much about, but found out she’s the CEO of America First Policy Institute, which raised $21 million and most of that went to the MAGA PAC. During the first Trump Administration, she was acting Director of the United States Domestic Policy Council. Someone close to that first Administration said, ‘we feel that she may have sabotaged some of MAGA’s efforts in Trump’s first term.’ Quite frankly, I’m not sure what they were referring to. And then I was like, okay, what is her connection to Ag? … And I found out that she did 4-H as a child. So, we have that going for us. I’m gonna be honest. I’m worried, I’m concerned. I’ve heard rumors that maybe our Deputy Secretary of Agriculture might be a MAHA farmer, and I’m gonna hold out hope that this is somebody that we can work with.” @NicoleShanahan

FEMA seems to be very confused about why so many #WNC business owners are closing up shop forever. Let me explain: a) You own a coffee shop along a small creek in Black Mountain NC, it's a local favorite. b) Helene causes the creek to rise 21 feet and it washes away all your equipment and your building caves in. c) You call insurance, they deny you. You didn't have flood insurance because you live 2,300ft above sea level. d) You submit a claim to FEMA. You are instantly rejected and told call the Small Business Administration. e) You call the Small Business Administration, they say, "hey sorry, we ran out of money October 3rd, maybe FEMA can help?" f) You call FEMA back and they don't answer the phone for 11 days. g) Finally you email your contact at FEMA telling them what the SBA told you. h) FEMA says, "Sorry wish we could help you, but we don't handle business stuff!" i) You say, "Ok, but my business is gone, my house is in ruins, I've got 3 kids to provide for... what do I do?" j) FEMA goes, "Wait a minute, I'm seeing here that your business is in a floodplain... tell you what, we can't help you rebuild your business, but we will buy it from you." k) You stare at your phone stunned, "Wait, you have enough money to BUY my business but you won't help me rebuild it?" l) FEMA goes, "Yes, that's correct. We will buy from it, but we will not help you rebuild it." m) You say, "That's insane though, if you have the money to buy it, why won't you help me rebuild it?" n) FEMA goes, "Those are the rules, sorry. If you want a loan to rebuild call the SBA, but it sounds like they are out of money." That's why business owners are pissed at FEMA.

If you are needing "mirroring", which is the natural need to be seen and appreciated, you're not going to get those needs fully met by posting on social media. The reason is because your psyche cannot be fulfilled by this kind of superficial attention at a distance. Superficial attention by parents is what causes this neediness in the first place. Our needs to be seen and appreciated really have to be met at an early age, but when they are not, we can be patched up by true friendship, love, mentoring , partnering at the human to human level. This happens naturally in family and community, but in our "age of narcissism", where everyone is rushing to be seen and validated as an individual, we abandon each other, keeping the disease spreading. Each person should assess for themselves how they are lacking in this department and get involved in human to human community and find relationships with people who did have these needs met or who have at least partially healed themselves - because others who are still in need are not so good at fulfilling our needs. This is not to say social media is not a useful communication technology because it is. But it is to say that we should each assess for ourselves our use of it and determine what is actually useful and productive and what is an attempt to fill in unmet needs that can only be met at the biological human to human level.
