1/ New paper out on Granular Certificates from Google! Over the past year I supported work on this paper, and want to walk through the core ideas and why they matter for clean electricity procurement. Views my own, as always.

Hey all - after more 14 years, I am leaving Twitter. It's been real...f*ing terrible lately. You can find me on Bluesky under my full name (Devon Swezey) or at the link below. Hope to continue interacting with many of you good people over there! bsky.app/profile/devonswezey…

Great interview on how nuclear and other firm clean energy technologies can help achieve 24/7 carbon-free power even as we rapidly scale solar, wind, and storage.
Great speaking with @BloombergTV about our advanced nuclear deal with @KairosPower and the critical role that new technologies will play in enabling the transition to 24/7 carbon-free electricity grids

Huge move from @Google. It’s one thing to reopen old plants, quite another to commit to new build of advanced non-LWR SMR. A big boost to the future of nuclear. wsj.com/business/energy-oil/…

@Google continues to use its purchasing power to create early market pull to help commercialize advanced clean firm power technologies. Google has agreed to buy 500 MW from @KairosPower, helping Kairos finance not just their first demo but the first 6-8 reactors. This follows similar contracts with enhanced geothermal pioneer @fervoenergy, including offtake for their 3.5 MW first-of-a-kind demo AND another 115 MWs of commercial projects. This kind of purchasing is catalytic & has outsized impact! Bravo.
1/ Today, @Google signed the world’s first corporate agreement to purchase clean nuclear energy from a series of small modular reactors (SMRs), to be developed by @KairosPower - our first-ever advanced nuclear deal. ⚛ Our blog: blog.google/outreach-initiat…

Excited to be partnering with @AstraZeneca, @VodafoneUK, @IronMountain , @airtrunk, and @shreecementltd on this pilot phase as well as many more companies in the future to chart a path toward 24/7 CFE for everyone.

This is great news. A clear example of AI demand spurring additional clean energy capacity. We need a national framework to reward and encourage this kind of investment at scale. nytimes.com/2024/09/20/clima…

This is amazing. Kudos @Microsoft and @ConstellationEG ! 👏👏👏
Now, THIS is additional clean supply. Bravo. It is remarkable to see a handful of nuclear reactors shuttered in the last decade due to poor revenues contemplating restart now. Palisades, now TMI. Who is next? Maybe it was unwise to let these plants close in the fist place eh? 🤔

Excellent piece.
Excited to have Brian Deese and Lisa Hansmann on Heatmap today, arguing that AI hyperscalers should strive to bring on *additional* clean energy supply: heatmap.news/technology/ai-a…

Me when the press release says a company is going “100% renewable energy” but it’s just unbundled RECs.

Renewable certificates are often unbundled from renewable electricity. This is a really important problem, highlighted brilliantly by the FT:
