African elephants have drastically declined in the last 50 years. Study: forest elephant numbers decreased by 90% while savanna populations fell by an average of 70%. Perhaps most shocking of all, the combined elephant population plunged by 77% on average. earth.com/news/african-elephโ€ฆ

The worldโ€™s largest viaduct #Delhi-Dehradun #expressway is proving that infrastructure and wildlife can coexist. Watching elephants of every generationโ€”majestic tuskers, curious young bulls, protective family herds, and tiny calvesโ€”move safely and confidently through the dedicated underpass is a powerful reminder of what truly matters. These heartwarming moments show that when we design with nature in mind, wildlife not only survives but thrives. Every elephant that chooses these corridors is a testament to a vision where progress does not come at the cost of the wild, inspiring hope for a future where development and conservation walk hand in hand. #WildlifeConservation #Elephants #ViksitBharat @wii_india @moefcc @EnvironmentPib @ntca_india @IBCA_official @bhlab_india @rameshpandeyifs @GobindsagarBha1 @vrtiwari1 @SPYadavIFS @NHAI_Official @MORTHIndia

It is encouraging to witness wildlife-friendly infrastructure fulfilling its intended purpose. Observing elephant families, including calves, confidently utilize dedicated underpasses is both reassuring and inspiring. When science-based solutions are effectively implemented and readily adopted by wildlife, they demonstrate that development and conservation can coexist harmoniously. Such achievements reinforce our commitment to building a truly #ViksitBharat that ensures safety and sustainability for both people and wildlife. @wii_india @moefcc @ForestDeptt @ntca_india @IBCA_official @rameshpandeyifs @SPYadavIFS @vrtiwari1 @GobindsagarBha1 @bhlab_india @KVSinghMPGonda @Sushi1966
A heartening sight from Dhenkanal Forest Division as wild elephants, including calves, safely use the dedicated underpass while moving through their natural habitat. Such wildlife-friendly infrastructure plays a vital role in ensuring safe movement, reducing risks, and strengthening human elephant coexistence. #odishawildlife #dhenkanalforestdivision #humanelephantcoexistence #elephantconservation #wildlifecorridors #safepassage #odishaforestdepartment

Learning to use a trunk is harder than it looks. Last year, more than 200 elephants were born to Amboseliโ€™s herds. Thanks to rains, ranger protection, and community habitat efforts, calves like this one have room to learn. ๐Ÿ“น: Joshua Clay #Elephant #Amboseli

But neuroscience and transspecies psychology are now pointing to something far more complex. Humans and elephants share deep brain systems tied to trauma, attachment, and emotional regulation. When those systems are overwhelmed, the response isnโ€™t choiceโ€”itโ€™s survival. Some withdraw. Some become constantly alert. Some react to threats that exist only in memory, not in the present moment. What we see on the outside is often a nervous system still trying to cope with what it has endured inside. ๐Ÿ’” Before we judge behaviour, we need to understand its origin. This isnโ€™t just scienceโ€”it is a mirror held up to how we see other living beings. ๐ŸŽฅ This segment is from the short film Prisoners for Life, part of the 26-part series Asian Elephants 101, produced and directed by our Founder Sangita Iyer, made possible with the support of National Geographic Society. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Watch. 500 tusks. A seizure of this scale is a stark reminder of the cost of the ivory trade. When a cache this large is discovered, it is reasonable to ask what happens next. And conservationists are rightfully asking what can be learned from it, where the ivory came from, who financed its movement, and whether the investigation will reach the people who profit most from the trade. news.mongabay.com/2026/06/huโ€ฆ

There was only a heartbreaking truth that needed to be told. What happened next is a powerful reminder that ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things when they refuse to look away from suffering. A news story sparked hope. Strangers became supporters. Supporters became friends. And a growing community of compassionate people from around the world helped transform one woman's mission into an international movement for elephants. The story of Gods in Shackles is not just about a film. It's about what becomes possible when people come together for a cause greater than themselves. ๐ŸŽฅ Watch this powerful video from producer and director Sangita Iyer as she shares the unlikely journey behind the multi-award-winning and United Nations-nominated documentary that helped shine a global spotlight on elephant suffering. ๐Ÿ’š Please watch, share, and help spread this message far and wide. A #tusker happily crossing the worldโ€™s largest viaduct. The traffic is moving above it. Part of Dehradun Delhi #Expressway - it is a 12 km long dedicated viaduct for wildlife movement. While elevated road crosses over #Rajaji landscape. So when you see a tusker walking beneath it, the elephant is actually using the #forest corridor as it always did, while the expressway traffic moves above exactly what the structure was designed to achieve.

Elephants are known as ecosystem engineers because their movements and behaviour help shape forest structure, open natural pathways, create space for new vegetation and play a crucial role in seed dispersal. โ€œElephant conservation is not just about saving animals, but also about maintaining the sustainability of ecological systems that support the future of humanity,โ€ Wahdi Azmi says. theguardian.com/environment/โ€ฆ
