Sand collapsed on a child who was digging a hole on Pensacola Beach this afternoon. The incident happened around 2:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of Via de Luna Drive. Escambia County EMS, Fire Rescue, and Pensacola Beach Lifeguards responded. According to Escambia County, care was provided on scene and no one was transported to the hospital. Sand collapses can be extremely dangerous. Deep holes can cave in without warning, trapping a person under heavy sand and making rescue difficult. Tragically, both children and adults have died in sand collapse incidents at beaches around the country. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

Had you read my calendar, you would have seen that I have back-to-back meetings all day, every day, with both career and political staff, with my counselors and with outside stakeholders, interspersed with press conferences and other policy announcements.
