Robert Redford has died. I interviewed him 14 years ago at a private event in Chicago. He told me: “I am not saying this to be self-serving, I am not saying this because I am here in this city. This is the greatest city in America. I have always felt that way.”

The mortgage fraud claim against Lisa Cook is false, per documents obtained by Reuters. Bill Pulte's accusation, the sole pretext Trump used to fire her from the Fed, was that she claimed two homes as primary residence. These docs show she did not. reuters.com/world/us/fed-gov…

Replying to @SenatorDurbin
Derek Douglas of the respected Civic Committee said the city welcomes “coordinated” not “militarized” partnerships with the federal government.

Hands down the most momentous visit I’ve made is to Omaha beach. The sacrifice Americans, British, and Canadian men is among the most important in modern history.
“If you think the world is selfish and rotten, go to the cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer overlooking Omaha Beach. See what one group of men did for another on D-Day, June 6th, 1944.” — Andy Rooney

American parents are NOT okay. -Latest Federal Reserve data shows how parents w/kids at home are struggling more financially than childless households. Only 65% of parents w/kids are ok financially versus 76% of childless households. -New medical study shoes only 25.8% of moms report "excellent mental health," a decline from 38% in 2016. I could go on, but these are the latest data points this week.

I'm not sure I've ever seen such a brutal distributional analysis from CBO. This contrasts the Medicaid and SNAP cuts for the lowest decile with the tax cuts for the top decile.

If enacted, this would be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in U.S. history.

In an era that looked as if it might be defined by an American man of depraved cruelty, corruption, and shame, what a magnificent thing the Catholic Church has done. The elevation of an American man of goodness, grace, humility, mercy, and faith to the Throne of St. Peter is moving and momentous for us all.

Helluva piece by Brian Deese, Biden's former NEC director. America's "ability to deliver long-term growth and improve Americans’ quality of life hinges on whether it can build at scale."

It's hard to fathom, but we are back on recession watch. The odds of the economy unraveling into recession in the coming year are uncomfortably high, rising to 35%. In coming posts, I will present the leading indicators I rely most on to determine whether a recession is dead ahead.

Future U.S. growth depends on whether we can build housing, energy generation, data centers, & more. But we face long-standing obstacles to building. I wrote for @ForeignAffairs about how building is a pragmatic, politically powerful path forward… And how to get it done.

ICE detained a U.S. citizen in Northern Virginia with guns drawn. He offered to show ID and told the officers he was an American citizen, but they handcuffed him anyway. The man is a Trump voter, but says he is reconsidering his support after he was targeted for being Hispanic:

Over the last 24 hours, MAGA has been ceaselessly spreading the claim that Democrats - from Susan Rice to Tony Blinken to me - pushed Zelensky to reject the minerals deal. Total lie. Made up out of thin air. Zero sources. 1/ A short lesson how these lies spread in MAGA world.

NEW: A DOGE staffer appears to be posting DOGE work on his public GitHub, as of this week. The staffer, Jordan Wick, also created a repository for a Twitter DM-downloading tool just 3 days ago. He posted work on geospatial data in Jan—undersea cables, ports & “critical minerals.”
