🚨Our June issue is out now This issue includes work from the Yan Ling lab at @TakedaPharma in which they highlight the need to use tri-cultures including both neuronal and glial cells to model Alzheimer's disease. Alongside work from the Michael Rose lab at @RWTH which explores the role of tumor-stromal crosstalk for chemotherapy resistance in bladder cancer. Interested in reading more about these works or checking out some of the other fantastic articles in our new issue. All articles in our June issue are available now Open Access. 🔗febs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com…

Give our latest paper a read! 🤓
Better tools = better science = better medicines. 🧬✨ 💡THE IDEA: create a huge mixed batch of cells where each cell has a different gene switched off. Then scan through them under a microscope, looking for anything unusual and when you find it, mark it with a laser so you can pick it out later. 👎THE PROBLEM: the laser light was too intense meaning the tag was switching on and then immediately burned out. 👍THE FIX: turn down the laser power, reduce how long it lingers on each spot, and slightly blur the focus. Simple tweaks but the result is cells that glow much more brightly and reliably helping scientists accurately track cells of interest. Interested in learning more? Have a look at the Research Protocol from @sravmukherjee , Giulia Zanetti, Bram van den Broek, @jalink_kees from @NKI_nl and @UvA_Amsterdam 🔗febs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com…

Your cells have a lifespan. When they get old, damaged, or stressed, they don't just die some enter a state called senescence: they stop dividing but refuse to go away. These 🧟 zombie cells accumulate as we age and reduce the crosstalk among cellular compartments which contributes to 👵 aging, 🎗️ cancer, and 🤒 chronic disease. Interested in learning more have a look at work from Krystyna Mazan-Mamczarz, Eleanor J. Wind, Jixiang Leng and Myriam Gorospe at the @NIHAging discussing the role of disrupted interorganelle communication in cellular senescence. 🔗 febs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com…
