Assoc. professor (7/2022!), UC Irvine, ecologist, chemist, plant-aerosol interactions in a changing climate. Tweets are my own. She/her #UCIBioSci#UCIChemistry
Rejecting a paper because the results don't fit nicely into what you would have expected is not how science is supposed to work. Those are the results. We can't change them. The methods were solid. This leads to bias in the scientific message that ends up getting published!
Nobody told me the "terrible twos" meant a constant onslaught of biting, pulling hair, screaming, pinching, eye gouging, more biting, hitting, shrieking, scratching, and having food/toys/dishes thrown at you. Please tell me this ends. I need to hear this ends...
Check out these videos made by students in my undergraduate chemical ecology course! So many amazing ways that organisms use chemical signals to interact with the world around them.@UCIBioSci@UCIEEB@UCIChemistry

"The Court’s decision is antithetical to the University of California’s mission and values...This is a sobering moment for many of us at the University of California and throughout the nation." -@UCPrezDrake. Read the full statement ⬇️ universityofcalifornia.edu/p…
BREAKING: The Supreme Court has taken away our right to abortion and overturned Roe v. Wade, opening the floodgates for states across the country to ban abortion.
The court has failed us all — but this is far from over. ⤵
From the dissent:
"As of today, this Court holds, a State can always force a woman to give birth, prohibiting even the earliest abortions. A State can thus transform what, when freely undertaken, is a wonder into what, when forced, may be a nightmare. "
This is hilarious. My @cricketphonesc was stolen today. I'm trying to sign on to my account to order another, but I need my phone to sign onto the account (because I don't know the password). I contact customer support...they can't help because I need my phone! WTAF. Ridiculous.
Y’all the lady @FairfieldHotels just called the police on me because I’ve been here for a week and they haven’t cleaned my room. I’ve asked everyday and they never came. I went to ask again and she said I was aggressive. Please pray I don’t die. Can anyone @MarriottBonvoy help 🥺
The most painful thing to an analytical chemist is to see numbers like 15.32485698342 on reports and graphs. Those are some serious sig figs. Must have been a REALLY expensive instrument...
9-yr-old son: It’s called WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS. It’s about this boy and his two red dogs. It’s a fun story! I have two chapters left. Don’t tell me how it ends!
So, look: I don’t want to hear Republicans talking about how much they love mothers today unless they’re going to do something—anything—to value mothers tomorrow.
Data from saliva-based COVID-19 screening deployed @CUBoulder show 2% of infected individuals carry 90% of the virions circulating within communities, serving as viral “supercarriers” and likely also superspreaders.

In that haze of new motherhood, I walked away from my son for <5 seconds while he was sitting on the floor. He fell over and smacked his face into the corner of a box, then started wailing. He was ok. Just a scratch. But if it had been worse, would that be murder?
A few months ago, in that blurry haze of new motherhood, I left my infant daughter Eureka on the couch for just a few seconds. She rolled and slipped and tumbled to the floor, hitting her head, then burst out crying. /a thread to #SaveMelissaLucio
It is with immense joy that I announce my transition from “tenure track” to “TENURED AND PROMOTED”! I’m officially an Associate Professor of Science Education y’all! I’ve earned tenure on my own terms - engaging in scholarship outside of the academy that impacts the community.
I will continue to wear a mask on airplanes. Why? Because sewage water analysis indicates COVID cases are on the rise and it's the least I can do to protect myself and others. RT if you will do the same.
Airlines lifting mask mandates is no cause for celebration 😫 💔
Tenure! It's so wild that undergraduate Celia didn't even know graduate school was a thing until I met Dr. Anne Johansen. Grateful to @TimVanReken for taking me into his lab @wsular. Grateful to @AnneleVirtanen for taking a chance on this rural American from Idaho.
And, of course, a huge thank you to the students working in my lab. I know you aren't very active on Twitter, but nothing would ever get done without you. Literally nothing would happen. It would just be me writing up fun project ideas 😂 @FarzyKh Shan Gu and Natalie Smith.
Oh my goodness...and of course @AerodyneRes and @SladeGroupUCSD I know I'm missing so many amazing researchers who have welcomed me into the research community.
