Journalism’s first obligation is the Truth, not an accurate rewrite of a news release

"To put it another way, this is a CBC senior director saying that it is not the job of the CBC to do fact checking at all. Something got published and we’ll just take what it says as fact as-is. For one, this is just peak journalistic laziness. For another, it’s extremely asinine to basically defend the practice of being extremely lazy in the process."
Wow... just... wow. Never in a million years would I have ever expected a news organization as large as the CBC to effectively tell me that it's not their job to do fact checking freezenet.ca/cbc-response-it… @Pagmenzies @cbcwatcher

Outstanding. Essentially, they claim its only their job to rewrite the news release without any obligation to the truth.

@Pagmenzies To commemorate me counting all the way up to five lawsuits filed against the CRTC over the Online Streaming Act, I completely rewrote the lyrics to Mambo Number 5 just for funzies. freezenet.ca/crtc-sued-a-fif…

Decided to boost the @OpenMediaOrg survey for those who want to participate in the current CRTC consultation on Canadian content. In short, it's a great thing to fill out if you can't create a fully custom response: freezenet.ca/open-media-host… @SwBenzie @matthtfld

@Pagmenzies I'm having trouble trying to find the Federal Court of Appeal case involving Google and the CRTC (re: Bill C-11 fees). I tried looking up the case itself on the various court databases, but no documents appear to be available. Is this normal?

Like, I think it's A-248-24 / GOOGLE LLC v. ATTORNEY GENERAL OF CANADA (as the parties listed matches with what I know about the case), but the website is completely devoid of any documents surrounding that case. Just that documents are being sent back and forth.

I don’t get it. This makes any real data privacy concerns worse! But if there’s a true national security reason, we’re not being shown a shred of evidence. Canadians should be treated like adults, not patted on the head and told our security establishment knows best.
My post on struggling to make sense of banning the TikTok company but leaving the app alone. If there are privacy and security issues, address them. But this doesn’t fix those issues, weakens enforcement, and lost millions in support for creative sector. x.com/mgeist/status/18542773…

Hey @privacylawyer , remember how the media and government insisted that the real threat to privacy was China using Tiktok to gather up people's personal information? Turns out, China had access to government infrastructure for five years freezenet.ca/drew-wilson-was…

"The internet has made it impossible for Canadian creators to find audiences," @PascaleStOnge_ we need to chat. Unless it's "opposite day" and nobody told me. Is it "opposite day"?

Looks like the Heritage Minister rejected Bryan Adams valid criticisms. Says the internet has made it impossible for Canadian creators to find audiences. Oh, and it's not a "tax", it's a "base contribution" which magically solves everything: freezenet.ca/heritage-minist… @SwBenzie

"The internet has made it impossible for Canadian creators to find audiences," has to be the stupidest thing to come out of the mouth of a Trudeau minister since Melanie Joly last spoke.

Well done. I enjoy anything that points to the massive levels of economic illiteracy in most political reporting.
