Great work! Spotted lanternfly is a skilled hitchhiker - it can show up anywhere if it gets a lift. People keeping their eye out for strange bugs can help prevent the spread of invasives like SLF!

This is so cool!
This trunk of an oak tree serves as a nest of an albar pine. Both trees are alive and have been sharing living space for more than a century. The pine reaches 15 meters high and is 130 years old, while the oak measures 12.5 meters and is 250 years old. Located in Burgos, Spain

It’s the first day of #fall and this horse-chestnut is #done. (Is otherwise an apparently healthy tree). Seems a bit early! But who am I to judge?

@HealthyTreesHC has been working with @Nature_KY to record and study tree health in Louisville. Great article on the importance of urban trees and the Green Heart project!
If we know how healthy our trees are we can intervene to help them before they disappear. Bigger healthier trees will provide more cooling. @HealthyTreesHC npr.org/2019/09/04/755349748…

Although #Asianlonghornedbeetle was recently overshadowed by more threatening invasive insects, new research reveals larvae have a broader range of host trees than adults, quietly aiding its spread. ow.ly/ZEWv50vyqSY #ThursdayThoughts Pic: J. Boggs, OH State Univ, #Bugwood

Exciting results this week! This healthy green ash seedling mounted a defense response that killed over 90 % of the #EAB larvae that entered it. Parents of the seedling are #lingeringash trees that survived long term EAB infestation. #treebreeding works!

Spotted lanternfly found feeding on hops today...but only 2! So far, they seem to prefer grapes.
