ALT Observed rainfall map for the last 24 hours showing widespread 1 to 3 inches of rain across central/eastern VA into MD with locally higher amounts of 7 inches near the Tri Cities.
ALT The graphic on the left shows the flood watch (in green shading) which is in effect through midnight tonight. Areas included are north of the NC-VA border, including all of central and SE VA, the Northern Neck, and the VA and MD Eastern Shore. Localized of areas of 2-4" are possible. Flooding of urban locations, creeks/streams, and low-lying and poor-drainage areas are possible.
ALT The image shows northwestern portions of the area highlighted in a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms tomorrow. Much of the remainder of the area is highlighted in a Marginal Risk ( 1 out of 5). Scattered thunderstorms are expected, with a few storms potentially becoming severe. Damaging wind gusts (45 to 60 mph) and heavy rain are the main threats. The most likely timing is 2 PM to 10 PM.
ALT A Heat Advisory is in effect for most of the area with only the far northwestern counties not included. Heat index values of 105-108° are expected Tuesday afternoon.
