Wow the level of cope from some people…Trump LITERALLY said at the beginning that the war was about defeating Iran and pushing for possible regime change
The war was never really about defeating Iran, but rather about deterring China by demonstrating that the US is both willing and able to use force when necessary. In that sense, it was already won.

Welcome to the MAGA cult 😂
Two years (and more importantly one election) apart

This describes the entire LHR airport 😂
I’m sorry but Terminal 5 is meant to be the @British_Airways flagship terminal. The club lounges are a total disgrace, the food is poor and the cleanliness awful. It’s basically a run down 3 star hotel

These kinds of abstract research by “analysts” means very little to the people actually living in these countries….
Great piece by @leng_ning, refuting the commonly held belief that authoritarian states are better at long-term planning. In fact, without democratic accountability, local officials keep building wasteful projects that serve no long-term purpose because they help with their KPI.

Until they need to go to the hospital for a medical emergency and realize it’s $2000 just for a short ambulance ride 🤣
Europeans coming to America for the World Cup are shocked by our prosperity. A German guy has his mind blown by Buc-ee’s. A Swedish woman is amazed by ranch dressing, says it's "like crack." She claims that the internet on a plane flying over the Rockies is faster than what she has at home. She declares “The U.S.A. has completely radicalized me within 48 hours.” Americans can romanticize Europe all they want. But it's good to have a higher standard of living. And we do, thanks to freer markets and mass migration. 🇺🇸

Yelling your stop to the minibus driver has been so ingrained into the HK psyche that even in the newer minibuses with stop buttons, people still just yell out the stop 😂

This question keeps getting asked and the answer really is simple: there is zero soft power benefit to China hosting the World Cup not to mention it’s incredibly expensive.
Still don't understand why China doesn't get to host the world cup People love football, they have infrastructure, it's cheap, VISA free, good time zone Would easily be the most popular edition (in terms of visitors) Is FIFA boycotting? Why?

The answer is really simple…term limits for all elected politicians. This is something the right and the left can get on board with
Susan Collins 30 years ago: “I’ve pledged that if I’m elected I will only serve two terms. 12 years is long enough to be in public service.”

Yeah it’s usually the big tour groups of aunties and uncles that are the most annoying. Most individual travelers, couples, families etc. are perfectly fine…
There was a period where Chinese tourists were notorious for their bad behaviour overseas during the 2000s. But this began to change within the last 15 years due to state-sponsored civic campaigns by the CPC to stop 'uncivilised behaviours' like spitting on the streets or queue cutting. The CPC has largely succeeded in curbing those behaviours.

Wow someone tell the British in 1842 that the Qing was not “China”
Referring to the 19th century Qing Dynasty as “China” is sort of like saying Aeneas was Italian

The Yuan didn't bring the Dalai Lama into power....that was Altan Khan in the late 16th century. The Yuan court patronized the Sakya Sect, not the Gelug (which didn't even exist when Qubilai was alive).
Yuan dynasty didn't "expand into Mongolia", they literally brought Mongolia with them when declaring themselves emperors of China. As for Tibet, the Yuan ended the civil war by placing the Dalai Lama in power. The Dalai was loyal to the Chinese emperor ever since. That's how Tibet became a part of China since long before the US or any modern country in America was set up. Xinjiang was a defensive battle against invading nomads, that ended with Chinese managing the territory to prevent further incursions. It's challenging to use moder political framing for this analysis, but the fact is clear: never did Chinese discuss what lands to conquer for the resources of the land. Xinjiang, Tibet, and Mongolia are literally the least fertile lands of China, with desert, steppe, and highlands. Resources under the ground were neither known nor valuable when those territories became part of China. On a blogger level, the naive argument that Mongols weren't real Chinese is sometimes heard, I agree and hate it. It plays right in the hands of US-backed Han Chauvinism trying to split China
