Itโ€™s finally out! Check out our new paper in #PNAS re: the use of hierarchically structured priors in visual motion perception (MOT future trajectory prediction) @BillScientific @gershbrain @jdrugowitsch
I am excited to share our new paper with @Hrag_P, @gershbrain and @jdrugowitsch studying the use of hierarchically structured priors in human visual motion perception: pnas.org/content/early/2020/โ€ฆ 1/

I have aphantasia, meaning that I can't form mental images at will. Nor, in my case, sounds, smells, flavors, tactile sensations, or emotions. When I close my eyes, I enter a blank world. In this thread I'll try to express what that is like for those who don't have aphantasia.

Happy holidays! Introducing RTutor.ai, an AI-powered app that lets you chat with your data in English! RTutor uses Davinci (#ChatGPTโ€™s sibling) to turn requests into R code, which is executed & results are shown instantly, available as a HTML report in seconds. 1/8

I recently came across data on who we spend our time with over the course of our lives. The insights are simultaneously inspiring and depressing. Here are 6 graphs everyone needs to see:

From logical reasoning to mental simulation, recurrent neural networks (RNNs) possess an incredible capacity for computation. To fully harness this capacity, we developed a programming language for RNNs arxiv.org/abs/2203.05032. Here is a game of pong programmed inside of an RNN.

I had the privilege to be on a zoom call with Francis Collins (Outgoing NIH director) today. I asked him why NIH didnโ€™t give full backing to open non-profit publishing. He replied this would likely lead to NIH funding cuts due to commercial journalsโ€™ lobbying power in US govt.

NIH funded research will be REQUIRED to have open data.
1) On January 25th 2023 a new data sharing policy from NIH kicks in which basically requires raw data from NIH-funded studies to be shared. Data is defined as:

Our paper Adversarial Feature Desensitization finally got accepted at #NeurIPS2021! (after 2 rejections including from NeurIPS2020). It was a long journey getting it out and Iโ€™m very thankful to all my incredible collaborators and the reviewers who helped shaping up the paper.
Many high-level features learned by neural networks are highly input-sensitive. We show that stabilizing the learned embedding against worst-case perturbations substantially improves the classification robustness. Joint work with @irinarish and @tyrell_turing. tweeprint here:

I wrote this succinct guide to R: r-guide.steveharoz.com It's intended as a companion to analysis and visualization books (e.g., r4ds.had.co.nz) that don't cover the basics. It's example-oriented and best for people who can already program but don't know #rstats.

Ontario now has 6 days of data showing cases and hospitalization by vaccine status โ€”ย so far showing a consistent result. This data needs a pop. adjustment, at minimum, so here's that. (It also very much needs age data, which would most likely widen the pop. adjusted gap.)
