~15 years ago, Dr. Fred Coe put forward the ā€œvas washdownā€ theory for explaining kidney stone formation Alan S.L. Yu @AlanYuNeph & team @KUMedCenter now report on a mouse model for kidney stone formation, showing kidney-specific claudin-2 deficiency leads to medullary nephrocalcinosis—and supporting the vas washdown model for Randall's plaque formation. doi.org/10.1172/JCI197807 The figure shows 2D maps of calcium and sodium in midline coronal kidney sections of control (Cre–) and Cldn2 kidney-specific KO (Cre ) mice. Color scale represents concentration in ppm.

Research support for rare diseases, which cumulatively affect ~30 million Americans, is primarily derived from NIH. Such work is exemplified by @AnnaGreka @broadinstitute in a new Ground Truths podcast. Open-access, w/ transcript, full video, no ads

I had the pleasure of attending this presidential address in person! By far one of the best, funniest, but mostly, important divulgative talks I’ve ever attended to. We all know and met super chicken, perhaps wanted to be super chicken at times, but collective intelligence and giving attitude should prevail! Make the super chicken you know (or your inner super chicken) read this piece and reflect on this :) Be a giver and not a taker!

It's so true @HumphreysLab: "the worst performers were the givers... And yet... the higher the giving behavior, the better the organization performs on every measure of productivity that he could measure. Givers sacrifice themselves, but they make their organizations better.šŸ‘šŸ‘
