Support, Don’t Punish: Harm Reduction Awareness and Advocacy Is Taking Shape in 🇷🇼 Last week, @RwandaNGOForum , in collaboration with @RBCRwanda the Coalition members @Sfrwanda1 , @ImroRwanda @HDIRwanda and @medecindumonde , with support from @EF_LINITIATIVE @expertisefrance and @GlobalFund successfully convened a national stakeholders’ workshop which developed and translated Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) in Rwanda. Organized under the TUBITEHO (Let’s Take Care of Them) Project, the workshop brought together representatives from government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, media professionals and communities members of #PWUD to collectively address critical gaps in harm reduction communication and service access at health facilities and community level. ⏩ The initiative is grounded in Rwanda’s commitment to achieving and sustaining the @UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets and ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 with integration of #Hepatitis #STIs #Tuberculosis #MentalHealth #NCDs and #SRHR . ⏩ This recognizes the urgent need for targeted, evidence-based harm reduction interventions given the significantly higher HIV prevalence among PWUD (13.46%) compared to the general population (3%). Throughout the week, discussions focused on: ⏩ Understanding the vulnerabilities and barriers faced by PWUDs. ⏩ Reviewing existing IEC materials, ⏩Identifying gaps to ensure relevance to the Rwandan context. Key Results: ✅ Participants successfully defined and translated key targeted messages, priority content areas, communication channels ensuring that all materials are: ✴️Accurate, ✴️Stigma-free, ✴️Culturally appropriate and accessible, particularly for for PWUD ✴️ Respond to the needs of communities of PWUD to access friendly and quality Healthcare services at both Health facility and Community Levels with respect to human rights and gender-based approaches. ✴️ Integrated IEC materials covering of #HIV #Hepatitis #STIs #Tuberculosis #MentalHealth #NCDsand #SRHR. The workshop reinforced the importance of a National and decentralized multi-pectoral platform responding to the needs of PWUD towards accessing healthcare services since PWUD should not be considered as #criminals rather than being #SickPeople who need special care and treatment. These materials are expected to significantly improve awareness, reduce stigma, enhance access to harm reduction services for PWUD and inform policy and decision makers to create an enabling environment for PWUD to access quality healthcare services. #SupportDontPunish #HealthForAll #RightToHealth #LeaveNoOneBehind #PWUDmatter #JointAdvocacy #HealthEquity #SDG3 #UHC2030 #Collaboration #Partnerships @RwandaHealth @nsanzimanasabin @CMuvunyi @eugirashebuja1 @RwandaParliamnt @RwandaJudiciary @Rwandapolice @RIB_Rw @Rwanda_Justice @DynamoNdacyayis @KigaliMentalHRC @JNdayizigiye @Rwanda_CCM @RwandaGender @RwandaLocalGov @CityofKigali @TuyishimeAlbert @DGishoma @NderaHospital @BrianChirombo @HindHassan_ @JennetKem @DrAdelakin @ambafrancerwa @UNODC @AndrewGasoziNtw @Knooliet
