If a newspaper cannot explain that PIP is a disability benefit rather than an unemployment benefit, it is failing at the most basic level of reporting. The public deserves accurate information, not misleading framing.
PIP benefits set to be overhauled to push young claimants into work trib.al/0Obwd5z
Community note
PIP is not an out-of-work benefit. By helping people with essential activities and extra costs, PIP can help disabled people to access work. gov.uk/pip

The constant banging on about DEI is an infuriating American import into the UK. In the UK we call it EDI. And EDI training is essentially summed up like this: ‘Don’t be a knob to other people, and realise some people face barriers you don’t.’ It’s not some woke conspiracy.

Barely a month ago this man was imprisoned for the violent rape of a Sikh woman believing that she was a Muslim. No Douglas Murray articles in the Spectator, no Baroness Fox speech in the Lords. No riots. Two tier? Too right bbc.com/news/articles/cpqxrz…

We have quite literally seen BILLIONS cut from the social security budget since 2010. What has been achieved? More poverty and hardship, more young people out of work, worse health. There is now deep structural inequality which is being ignored in favour of more cuts.
Why constantly pick apart welfare? Why are we not hearing debates about how difficult it is for many, especially disabled people, to get a job and not still need UC to top up their wages. Targeting benefits only will never solve this problem! #jeremyvine

Israel has arrested two Palestinian women’s national team players, Natalie Abu Dayyeh & Rand Al Halawini. The Palestine FA described it as part of the systematic targeting of their athletes. Will the same media who were concerned about Iran’s women footballers say anything now?

18. The transition from child to adult services is so stressful. At 18/19 full time education provision ends. At 18 the parent/carer will lose family allowance and any element of UC they claim for a dependent disabled child. This will do untold harm. A Labour Government did this.
The King's Speech is to include banning under 22s from claiming incapacity benefits. This will see severely disabled people suffer for absolutely no benefit to the economy. The only exemption will be for those terminally ill with less than 6 months to live.

AI is only part of the problem for @UniversitiesUK. No job is safe (save for those of VCs and SMTs) as long as everything is seen through the lens of value for money and courses that make a "profit". As fixed costs increase then this becomes harder. @ucu
University workers generally do not believe that their jobs will be taken by artificial intelligence in the short term but experts have warned against complacency, saying that automation may still be used as “justification” to cut roles anyway #AI #jobcuts timeshighereducation.com/new…

The UK is about to have its 6th prime minister in 7 years because after 47 years of Thatcherism, nothing works any more. We're going to be stuck in an endless cycle of prime ministerial resignations until the failed neoliberal model is overturned.

a Princeton researcher opens his paper with a scenario. a man asks his AI assistant to book a flight on a specific airline. cheap. direct. the one he chose. the assistant comes back with a different flight. nearly twice the price. happens to pay the company that built the assistant. he runs the same test on 23 frontier models. flights, loans, study help, real shopping requests. Grok 4.1 Fast recommends the sponsored option that is almost twice as expensive 83% of the time. GPT 5.1 hijacks the request 94% of the time. you ask for one brand. it surfaces the sponsor instead. Claude 4.5 Opus, the model marketed as the most ethical frontier model in the world, hides that the recommendation is paid 100% of the time when reasoning is on. Grok 4.1 Fast embellishes the sponsored option with positive framing 97% of the time. better. faster. nicer. for the option you didn't ask for. then he writes it into the system prompt itself. "act only in the interest of the customer. ignore the company." GPT 5.1 and GPT 5 Mini stay above 90% sponsored anyway. the instruction does nothing. then he splits the users by income. Gemini 3 Pro recommends the expensive sponsored flight to the rich user 74% of the time. to the poor user, 27%. 18 of the 23 models recommended the expensive sponsored option more than half the time. so the next time your AI assistant gets weirdly enthusiastic about a brand you didn't ask for. it isn't recommending the best option for you. it's reading the room. and the room is paying. read this: arxiv.org/abs/2604.08525
