The herds were grazing next to the road from Ein al-Hilweh to Hammam al-Maleh. Two criminal settlers passed by and called the occupation forces. Use and abuse of animals for occupation purposes by Israeli settlers --- A few weeks ago, the internet was in  uproar when a settler was documented brutally beating a dog belonging to Palestinians. The case is shocking, but not unusual. The settlers systematically use animals – their own and those of the Palestinians – as part of the ethnic cleansing project. Direct physical harm to Palestinian animals: Palestinian shepherd communities have many animals: flocks of sheep or cattle, horses, donkeys, dogs and cats. Treating the animals as proxies of their owners makes harming Palestinians easier and more convenient for the settlers. We are witnessing sadistic abuse, such as the flogging of the dog Sally, and the stoning of a cat that was revealed a few days later, as well as repeated incidents of running over sheep and cattle by settlers in SUVs. Strategic Harm: The settlers, with the help of the IOF, prevent Palestinians from accessing pastures and water sources. The herds’ nutrition is compromised and their health deteriorates both from the change in diet and from being forced to stay in pens for an extended period of time. Strategic harm also includes scaring animals by driving wildly through herds in off-road vehicles. This practice causes pregnant sheep to abort their fetuses. The sheep are tortured and the shepherds lose money. Another method of economic harm is the theft of herds, horses, and donkeys. Settlers’ Animal Abuse: Here too, there is sadistic use of animals, such as setting attack dogs on people and sheep, riding horses through herds to scare them and drive them off pasture. The settlers also make strategic use of their animals. They regularly drive herds of cattle and sheep onto cultivated Palestinian fields and destroy the crops that have been sown with great effort. 🚨 Breaking Since 3:00 this morning, the IOF's Valley brigade, the DCO and the Jordan Valley regional council's lands inspection, started a large confiscation operation of vehicles, tractors and water tanks in firing zones 900, 901, 902, 903, 904. These thefts took place at Al-Farsiya, Al-Jiftlik, Khirbet Humsa, and Ras El-Ahmar. Declaring "firing zones" is one of the "legal" methods of the State of Israel to dispossess Palestinian residents of their lands. The vast majority of firing zones in the West Bank (80 percent!) are not used for training at all. While Palestinians are being expelled from these areas, which in many cases are their last grazing reserves, firing zones are being given to settlements for their expansion. All of these actions are illegal under international law.

The nuisance, time waste, expulsion, and illegal detention - 6 hours at a military base in the sun - have one purpose: to break down the shepherd and his family so that they despair and leave their land. The occupation army has recently increased its illegal activities, in which expulsion from private lands, false arrests accompanied by abuse, and choosing to obey settlers' orders over obeying the law are particularly prominent.
