Great example of the value of @Hutchinsons_Ag gold soil analysis! @woodtekeng tested their soil 4 yrs apart, providing valuable insights into changes over time when using biochar. Testing before & after changes is crucial for continual decision-making.
📊 Healthy soils don't happen by accident — they’re built over time and backed by good data. Four years ago, our client, @woodtekeng used our Gold Soil Analysis to baseline their soil health and guide their biochar trials. Read their case study here: loom.ly/NgISkEk

Had a fantastic day delivering this hands-on soils training session for our foundation agronomists. Great to have so many engaged and eager faces wanting to learn more about this fundamental aspect of agriculture. #healthysoils #agronomy
Our foundation students had a great day learning about Healthy Soils this week! It was a jam packed day covering soil texturing, VESS assessment, slake testing, erosion demos and delving into our advanced Gold Soil Analysis (healthysoils.co.uk/soil-serv…). At Hutchinsons we strive to continually develop the skills of our agronomists and for our Foundation agronomists this is part of a comprehensive training programme - which you can learn more about here: hutchinsons.co.uk/about-us/c… #HealthySoils

The nutritional value in above ground biomass of cover crops can be difficult to gauge & is often overlooked as a source of nutrients. Yesterday we assisted a grower with a biomass evaluation which will accurately predict the nutritional value using a few simple measurements.

If you visited one of our Helix sites or trial sites this summer, you might have seen @JadePrinceAg demonstrating a slake test on the Healthy Soils stand. A slake test is a useful way of demonstrating the stability of soil aggregates. When soil is placed into water, the water is drawn into the soil displacing air. If the pores are stable then the soil will hold its form, if the pores are unstable then the soil will break apart or ‘slake’. In the images the soil on the left is unstable and has ‘slaked’ while the soil on the right has maintained its shape. This test should be done when soils are dry so a good summer test!
