My 84 year old Dad became a Republican as soon as the party started competing in the South in the 1960s, and he's still upset Bo Callaway didn't win the 1966 governor race in Georgia, even though he won the most votes.
I hear a Callaway reference at least once a week.

Lexington, Massachusetts was allegedly named for a place in Nottinghamshire now known as Laxton, but formerly spelled "Lexington".
I guess the British just don't like pronouncing their own towns' names, like how "St. Botolph's Town" became "Boston" (Bo's Town).

One tidbit I always find fascinating is that for Congressional roll calls, some members are listed with their states not because they have the same last name (multiple Smith's, Williams's, Garcia's, Torres's), but because they have last names that rhyme or share syllables:
