The CBS Sports family lost a beloved teammate over the weekend. A tragic accident took the life of 31-year old Bryce Adair, who worked on football and golf coverage Can’t imagine how any family deals with a sudden loss, both immediate family and work family Jim Nantz with a moving and emotional tribute during the broadcast of the Memorial Tournament. #RIP 🙏

"The enemy assault has been repulsed. The Americans are being destroyed at the water's edge." This is what German commanders reported in the early hours of D-Day. By 11am, Germany got a reality check: Scattered groups of American survivors, led by low-ranking officers and non-commissioned officers, began scaling the bluffs between the German bunkers. When the defenders looked behind them, they realized American soldiers had bypassed their front-facing concrete pillboxes and were attacking them from the rear. By the time German high command realized the first reports were completely wrong, Omaha Beach had been breached, and the Atlantic Wall was broken. 🇺🇸

"I shall never forget that beach...one dead soldier in particular who caught my eye. I wonder about him. What were his plans never to be fulfilled, what fate brought him to that spot at that moment? Who was waiting for him at home?" — Corporal William Preston D-Day

The largest amphibious invasion in human history began in the dark. At dawn on June 6, 1944, nearly 7,000 vessels carrying 160,000 Allied troops closed in on the beaches of Normandy. Through courage and sacrifice, they secured a foothold in Nazi-occupied France and began the liberation of Western Europe. Today, we honor the heroes of D-Day.

Check out the comments. So so many moving comments from the children of men now heading to fight in Normandy. @WWIIMemorial
Goodbye to England. Many of the 73,000 US troops who will see action on D-Day, just 48 hours away, are now being ferried to troopships. Photo by the great Robert Capa. @WWIIMemorial

There is no corroborating evidence Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford ever met. All four people who Ford said were at a party where the alleged assault occurred, including her close female friend, said there was no such party. The close friend also said she didn’t believe Ford’s story, and that she told the FBI Ford’s allies threatened her with a smear campaign if she refused to lie and confirm it.
The allegations against Platner are better corroborated than the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh were and it will be interesting to see who manages to be consistent in their beliefs about such things.

An experimental drug called daraxonrasib nearly doubled overall survival rates for patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, according to the results of a newly published study. @DrLaPook has more on the findings. cbsn.ws/3QffaVd

people aren’t celebrating this pancreatic cancer breakthrough enough. it should be international news
One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen: a standing ovation for the full Daraxonrasib results I feel inspired and energised, to put it mildly — we have a targeted therapy for pancreatic cancer now, and nothing is undruggable anymore

This is a clear reinvestment in 60 Minutes. Nick Bilton is a serious journalist who will focus on groundbreaking investigative pieces and knows how to reach audiences in new places. Welcome to CBS!
It's the honor of my career to become the executive producer of 60 Minutes. I just shared the note below with the incredible staff and can't wait to get started.

Actually, it’s hard to turn on any cable news network or open a major outlet right now without seeing clips from two major @CBSNews interviews. Every network is running CBS News footage, CBS News bugs are plastered across screens, and the national conversation is being driven by reporting and interviews CBS landed — twice over. Big day for @bariweiss and @CBSNewsPress. Congrats to them on two huge gets that dominated the news cycle today.
At a certain point Bari Weiss just creates too much negative news for her corporate overlords.

I was graduating law school at UChicago and went to every home game of that Bulls playoffs/finals run. Rocked up to the old Chicago stadium (usually by myself) and scalped tickets on the cheap. Capped it off w an epic NBA Finals triple OT game 3 vs Suns on a first date (my tickets and invite) w the man I would end up marrying a year later. Crazy people don’t know all about NBA 1993 (and the years before and after) and the absolute dominance and dynasty of the Chicago Bulls
So it’s impossible to name the starting lineup of the 1993 championship team because the Knicks didn’t win a championship in 1993. Missed opportunity for Hochul to just say something normal and endearing in an election year, like: “I welcome the president’s rooting for the Knicks and encourage all Americans to follow suit. If President Trump does attend the NBA Finals, I’d love for him to sit next to me at a game and perhaps find some time between whistles to discuss unfreezing essential infrastructure funds needed to improve our state.”

And of course it’s the great @weijia asking the key question
Notable that, after the debate, the White House's top spokesperson mocked and dismissed the idea Biden would have received a neurological scan - which is the exact kind of thing you would probably do if your wife thinks you had a stroke

Biden aides told @jaketapper and me that they had seen him act that way before and after. Those moments became more difficult to predict and conceal. And Jill joined Biden for several campaign events after the debate including a rally the next day.
Jill Biden on watching the 2024 debate. “As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh, my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death,”

Since the day Sam died, the @Cubs not only have not won a game — they have become the first team in MLB history to lose 9 in a row after having two 10-game win streaks 🐐
The Cubs have not won a game since May 15th, the day that Billy Goat Tavern owner Sam Sianis passed away. Is the curse back? #ChicagoHistory ⚾️
