Long Bitcoin
Today, Bitcoin's market cap of ~$2T represents about 11% of gold's market cap of ~$18T. Bitcoin is a better form of money. It has the decentralization and scarcity of gold, but better divisibility, portability, and (i think) even fungibility. It's relatively harder to tell if gold is pure, or contains some lead in the middle of the bar. All this leads me to believe that any country with Gold reserves, should be holding at least 11% of that amount in Bitcoin reserves. And I believe in the next 5-10 years Bitcoin's market cap will likely surpass Gold. So these reserves should grow to exceed Gold. If the US leads here with a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, I think many of the G20 will follow. Coinbase is available to help any country that wishes to do so. Get in touch.

Trying to get a passport renewed in Canada is absolutely kafkaesque. Like I’ve now driven 3h to random service offices and waited hours and hours for appointment. In the end the system is down and “it’s not their fault” and no we can’t help you. Now have to restart the entire thing and do it again. Canadians really need to demand better from gov services. All of this work to bump one column in one database and issue a new piece of paper. Let’s digitize these processes like everyone else.

This is one of the best videos to ever exist for entrepreneurs, creators... I think about it often. In 2016, Pharrell Williams visited a NYU music production class to critique student songs. At the beginning you could see student "Maggie Rogers" drenched with the absolute terror of sharing this with him. Pharrell is there just trying to keep his excitement in. The guy couldn’t wait to tell her this song is the bee’s knees. After he listened to a song called “Alaska”, he explained why “I have zero, zero, zero notes for that:” 24 hours later, someone posted the clip to Reddit. It blew up and the rest is history. Grammy nominated, millions of followers etc. And Maggie responded to the Reddit thread (i'll share screenshot in the next tweet). This story I find so cool because it inspires other artists to share what they got. We all can all connect with the fear of showing our work. It ain't easy. And to have a unique POV like Maggie. Easy to copy, harder to have something unique. I’ve got a bunch of designs, creations that have never seen the light of day. This video inspires me to publish more. My point of sharing this video: Publish your art anonymously. Or publish your art proudly as yourself. Bonus points if it's one of a kind work. But publish your darn art. This is your new week's energy. This is your 2024 energy. Go get 'em. -- If you enjoyed this, go listen to some Maggie Rogers. And thank you to Pharrell for being so supportive to an up and comer. And go follow me for more stories like this @gregisenberg, so you get more of it in your feed I share stories about internet communities, free startup ideas and more. From amazon.com/Elon-Musk-Walter-… on Musk meeting @Grimezsz: "Every now and then, often at the most complex of times, the Creators of Our Simulation—those rascals who conjure up what we are led to believe is reality—drop in a sparky new element, one that creates chaotic new subplots. And thus into Musk’s life in the spring of 2018, amid the emotional tsunami caused by his breakup with Amber Heard, came a waiflike weaver of sounds, Claire Boucher, known as Grimes, a smart and spellbinding performance artist whose appearance would lead to new children, on-and-off domesticity, and even a public battle with an unhinged rapper. Born in Vancouver, Grimes had produced four albums by the time she started dating Musk. Drawing on science fiction themes and memes, her mesmerizing music combined sonic texture with elements of dream pop and electronica. She had an adventuresome curiosity that led her to become interested in eclectic ideas, such as a thought experiment known as Roko’s basilisk, which posits that artificial intelligence could get out of control and torture any human who had not helped it gain power. These are the types of things that she and Musk worry about. When Musk wanted to tweet a pun about it, he Google-searched to find an image, and he discovered that Grimes had made it an element of her 2015 music video “Flesh without Blood.” She and Musk got into a Twitter exchange that led, in the modern way, to direct-messaging and texting. They had met before and, ironically, it was when Musk was in an elevator with Amber Heard. “Remember that elevator meeting?” Grimes asked during a late-night conversation I had with her and Musk. “I mean that was super weird.” “Of all the times to meet,” Musk agreed. “You were staring at me very intensely.” “No,” she corrected, “you were the one giving me a weird stare.” After they met again through the Roko’s basilisk exchange on Twitter, Musk invited her to fly up to Fremont to visit his factory, his idea of a good date. “We just walked the floor all night, and I watched him try to fix things,” Grimes says. The next night, while driving her to a restaurant, he showed how fast the car accelerated, then took his hands off the wheel, covered his eyes, and let her experience Autopilot. “I was like, oh shit, this guy is fucking crazy,” she says. “The car was signaling and changing lanes by itself. It felt like a scene out of a Marvel movie.” At the restaurant, he carved “EM CB” on the wall. When she compared his powers to those of Gandalf, he gave her a rapid-fire trivia test on Lord of the Rings. He wanted to see whether she was truly a faithful fan. She passed. “That mattered to me,” Musk says. As a gift, she gave him a box of animal bones she had collected. In the evenings, they listened to Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History and other history podcasts and audiobooks. “The only way I could be in a serious relationship is if the person I’m dating can also listen to an hour of, like, war history before bed,” she says. What is the equity risk premium and why does it matter to the average person? If you own stocks of any kind, at some point, the reason a stock goes up or down is not just because of their long term earnings but also how they are valued relative to something that is less risky, like bonds. This “spread” is a good way of keeping tabs on how expensive or cheap stocks are vs bonds (in this case 10-yr US bonds). Even though my POV is that stocks are generally going up from here, it’s important to note that by no means is it a bargain. In fact, the chart below says that it’s a pretty shitty deal - and the worst deal it’s been since 2003. So how can stocks keep going up? Well, there are other factors at play including the need for short term returns by some actors (funds, pensions) that overcome the long term risk / reward tradeoff. What can you do with this information? For most, nothing but it’s a good way to prepare yourself for the next move up or down and understand the volatility that can come. Volatility is about short term histrionics. And charts like this can tell you where those histrionics may take stocks in the near term before long term logic reestablishes itself. Good luck to all the players.
