Today at Industry Committee, Liberal MP Michael Ma used his time to attack a witness and cast doubt on well-documented human rights and forced labour abuses in Xinjiang. That is unacceptable from any Canadian Member of Parliament. Canadians expect MPs to stand up for human rights, not run cover for the Chinese regime.

Somewhere along the way, progressives lost the entire concept of Westminster Parliamentary democracy. The head of state is King Charles. It is not Mr. Eby. It is a Westminster Parliamentary jurisdiction, not an Orwellian state. British Columbians vote in MLA's who form the Legislature. The king, through the Lt. Governor, asks a party within the Legislature to form a government on behalf of the King. The premier leads that government. It is the King's government, not the premier's. It is a responsible government, meaning it must govern in a manner responsive to the interests of all British Columbians. The premier is obligated to work with all MLA's in their roles as representatives of their constituents. This obligation arises both as the leader of the King's government but also as a result of responsible government. It is entirely irrelevant whether or not the premier does not agree with the views of those MLA's. Nor does it matter if ordinary British Columbians agree with those MLA's views: the fact is, their riding elected them. The premier is not required to have dinner parties with them but he is required to work with them. If Mr. Eby does not wish to work with the representatives of all British Columbians, he has not busy leading the King's government here in British Columbia.

Yet the current NDP govt has been so bad, you’re tied with them. So bad this MP has to turn off replies.

The charter specifically says I can deny it. I can deny the earth is round. I can deny the existence of a God, surely that would harm many more people? This is very much what authoritarians want, totally control over what you may say.

Trudeau bears a huge responsibility for this.

In passing the Scottish Hate Crime Act, Scottish lawmakers seem to have placed higher value on the feelings of men performing their idea of femaleness, however misogynistically or opportunistically, than on the rights and freedoms of actual women and girls. The new legislation is wide open to abuse by activists who wish to silence those of us speaking out about the dangers of eliminating women's and girls’ single-sex spaces, the nonsense made of crime data if violent and sexual assaults committed by men are recorded as female crimes, the grotesque unfairness of allowing males to compete in female sports, the injustice of women’s jobs, honours and opportunities being taken by trans-identified men, and the reality and immutability of biological sex. For several years now, Scottish women have been pressured by their government and members of the police force to deny the evidence of their eyes and ears, repudiate biological facts and embrace a neo-religious concept of gender that is unprovable and untestable. The re-definition of 'woman' to include every man who declares himself one has already had serious consequences for women's and girls’ rights and safety in Scotland, with the strongest impact felt, as ever, by the most vulnerable, including female prisoners and rape survivors. It is impossible to accurately describe or tackle the reality of violence and sexual violence committed against women and girls, or address the current assault on women’s and girls’ rights, unless we are allowed to call a man a man. Freedom of speech and belief are at an end in Scotland if the accurate description of biological sex is deemed criminal. I'm currently out of the country, but if what I've written here qualifies as an offence under the terms of the new act, I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment. If your protest is designed to prevent me from getting to my job, my home, or picking up my kids, then it's harassment. If it targets a business or neighborhood based on religion, it's harassment. If it uses techniques to inveigle bystanders to self defence, that's harassment.
