Absolutely devastating for college affordability, access, and success. They are playing a dangerous political game with people’s lives.
FYI - House Appropriations Republicans posted the report explaining the policies and numbers behind their Labor-HHS-Education funding bill for FY24, which they plan to vote on the week of Nov. 13. The bill cuts Education funding by $22 billion (28%), to below the 2006 level (1/2)

This morning, @uscensusbureau reports a 4.6 percentage point increase in poverty when measured with the supplemental poverty rate from 2021 to 2022 - in part a direct result of the expiration of pandemic-related supports. #CensusData

It's #HungerActionMonth, and nearly 100 partners in the @FeedingAmerica network are at the Capitol urging Congress to pass a strong #FarmBill. I support their efforts and look forward to a #FarmBill that works for families facing hunger! #FarmBillFlyIn

Thanks for nuanced coverage of the issue! The dip in enrollment does not reflect lack of interest or value in post sec creds. It points to need for policies that support college access and completion AND better wages and job quality for workers. @SkillsCoalition
A new paper says community college enrollments fall in response to state-level minimum wage increases, but degree completion rates largely stay the same. insidehighered.com/news/inst…

Let’s face it and convince policymakers of it. Work requirements for #SNAP and #TANF limit low-income college students from earning the higher education they need to get a good job that pays an income high enough to support themselves and their families. hechingerreport.org/work-rul…

Going to college is WORK. But rules for public benefits don't see it that way—they boot people out for seeking a degree. These outdated restrictions in SNAP, TANF, and other programs sabotage workforce development and economic mobility. hechingerreport.org/work-rul…

Upcoming Farm Bill reauthorization is a chance to remove work requirements and #SNAP time limits, reduce hunger, increase access to high-quality #skillstraining, and improve community wellbeing. Stayed tuned for more info from @SkillsCoalition on the opportunity ahead! (3/3)

These workers need access to high-quality employment and training programs that lead to #goodjobs with better wages, not ineffective work requirements that perpetuate poverty and increase government red tape. (2/3)

As #SNAP time limits and calls for work requirements increase, it's important to remind policymakers that the majority of people accessing these benefits who are able to work do so. (Thread ⬇️)
The #COVID19 public health emergency officially ends today. @ashrafkhalil explains what that means for #Medicaid, #SNAP, and other parts of the social safety net that expanded during the pandemic. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

Focus on the facts. Our policies should support the public, not increase child poverty and hunger. Investments in education, cc's, and career pathways pay off. Austere cuts to programs that boost community wellbeing should be off the table. @SkillsCoalition
Our new interactive tool helps you explore how House Republicans’ harsh funding caps would effect (and in many cases harm) vital programs. It's very cool! #DebtCeiling cbpp.org/research/federal-bu…

It's simple - we must not make it harder for people to meet their basic needs.
Replying to @ParrottCBPP
The President must stand by his commitment and refuse to sign into law any legislation that takes TANF assistance, SNAP, or Medicaid away from people who count on them.

We’ve been advocating for the JOBS Act for nearly a decade. It’s because we ought to invest in people who want to advance their career with high-quality, short-term skills training programs in the same way we invest in people seeking a two- or four-year degree.
Thank you @RepBillJohnson, @RepLBR, @RepMikeTurner, & @RepSherrill for introducing JOBS Act legislation today in the House. billjohnson.house.gov/news/d… Why JOBS? ⬇️
